I am heavily involved with gaming sites and a message board. From what I have read, which is speculation is as follows.

Kinect is included and there will be two price points for the Nextbox. What the difference is between the two is most likely HD space.

If anything the LIVE fee will be higher than what it is now because they are seriously pushing MS Television. One of the main focal points that MS isn't going to be concentrating on games moreso than a media hub.

The games will be on Blu-Ray disks that are NOT playable. They merely hold the files needed to install the games onto the HD and aren't needed to be in the system to play. In fact they are useless once the game is installed. Rumor has it that the price point of these games are $79.99 for both Nextbox and PS4.

Speculation of the install process is to stop used games sales. Which really sucks, especially with that $79 price point for new games.

A MAJOR issue I have about needing a constant internet connection is for the games themselves. In order to stop used games you need that constant connection. So this means even single player games will not be playable without being connected to the cloud.

This is all speculation and rumors but consider this, all these rumors are from the same source/sources that NAILED the PS4 rumors weeks or months before Sony had their reveal.

I'm not bothered about the $79.99 price point. From what I can remember, the prices for video games has been hovering around 50-60 bucks for like 10+ years now. I knew the time would come.

I don't like the fact that the Xbox 720 might be a media hub. If I wanted to subject myself to mindless television, then I would watch it. Otherwise, Netflix is all (and most people) need.

The problem with being a media hub is they are offering apps that are available on practically every single wireless device now for no additional cost. I have Netflix on my TV. The app on my Samsung works better than the app on the 360, plus I'm not paying a service fee (other than the cost of Netflix) to use it. You can only use Netflix on the 360 if you have a Gold Account.

My TV has Netflix, Vudu, Pandora, Amazon Instant, Cinema Now...hundreds of apps. I'm not buying a media hub disguised as a gaming system. I want a damn gaming system!

Very good point. I fucking hate Netflix on my 360. It's super slow and it puts me into a rage I cannot explain. The fact that I can't use it without Xbox Live Gold (say if my account expires and I'm waiting a week to purchase a new 3 or 12 month) is fucking ridiculous. I'm already paying for the service, why the hell can't I use my xbox with it? So, I just say "F" it and play it on my PC.

I'm hoping the next Xbox will not be about a media hub. If they give me different offers; "Pay this for Netflix and blah blah, pay this for Hulu, HBO, etc." then I will be alright.

They need two LIVE price points. One that lets you just play games and one that lets you play games and gives you access to the apps. But this is MS we are talking about and doing it that way they know they will lose money so it will never happen. But at that point it will be apparent they will not be focusing on games and I won't be buying their console anyway so it would be a non-issue for me.

Hell my son has a Nabi and the Netflix app on there is far superior to what is on the 360. Almost every wireless, internet connected device has all the apps MS is charging you additionally for. Look at last year's E3. Kinect shovelware and new app's dominated their conference.

It's been about $60 since the Atari 2600 so it's been about 35 years give or take. There have been some attempts to increase the price, some premium SNES and N64 games ventured into the $70-$80 range in the early years of each but by mid-system life all new games returned to the $60 mark. I remember buying MK Trilogy for $80 for the N64 when it came out.

The reality is that the games market has gotten so large that there is enough room for games to be sold for less money and the small developers still make a profit. Think of it like this: if a company in the SNES days makes an unpopular game they might only sell a few hundred copies. Today if they make an unpopular game they might only sell a few thousand copies. When you factor in digital distribution methods and not having to pay for manufacturing media, shipping, retail, etc it leaves a lot more money left over for the developers EVEN if the price is significantly less than $60 to the end user.

Jacking the price up to $80 is only going to bring in more money for large companies that know they have a gauranteed seller in their hands (Halo, COD, MW, Mario, etc). The higher price for games will only hurt the smaller and more independent guys.

Myself, I only buy 2 or 3 $60 games per year, I always wait for the price drops, sales, or in console's case used games. I certainly wouldn't be buying $80 stand alone games.

Agreed. It's rare that I spend that much money on a video game anymore. Last time I spent that much was for Diablo 3 I believe :elstare:

I'm like that myself. That's enough entertainment to last me long enough for other stuff's prices to drop and snatch up a good deal online or more likely at Gamestop.

A.O. is a naive fool if he doesn't understand the need and/or desire for not wanting an "always on" device, and he's truly a condescending asshat if he does - and the fashioning of responses he gave makes that clear. I personally will not be getting a 720 if a connection is always required to play a game. That simple.

People saying this isn't a big deal don't know all the story behind it. If there is no internet connection after 3 minutes the console goes into a suspended mode and cannot be used until a connection is reestablished. That means no gaming...PERIOD. You don't just lose the ability to play online you lose the ability to play at all.

I think there is some validity to these rumors at this point because how quiet MS is being. Sony already has a ton of momentum from their announcement and the buzz and excitement around the PS4 is crazy. As a competitor you can't allow this to keep building like they are...unless you really don't having anything substantial to counter with.

Plus there are too many sources providing the same exact information. As I mentioned before a few of these sources predicted the PS4 specs and features EXACTLY. I hope they are false because I have a ton of money dumped into MS for gaming already and it would really suck to leave them because of their ridiculous business antics.

If this turns out to be the case, i'll be skipping on the next Xbox because they're not getting my money for their stupid decisions. We shall find out more in E3, actually I think they're having a conference in May.
