    Mud

Sometimes I truly enjoy sitting back and watching a movie I normally wouldn't bother with. Everyone has a specific genre they typically ignore because it just isn't their cup of tea. Tear-jerking drama's are the ones I typically avoid. But when I had the chance to watch Mud I gave it a try because I am a fan of Matthew McConaughey and think he is a highly underrated actor.

Mud is a captivating movie that immediately draws you in and keeps you in it's world due to strong performances all around (especially McConaughey) and a gripping story. Even the kids in this movie (sorry their names escape me) did an outstanding job and look to have a very bright future. Simply put their performances are top-notch.

The bond that the kids form with Mud is portrayed so genuinely and played out so well you forget you are watching a movie.

Just to touch on the story, it revolves around two boys that befriend a mysterious man who calls himself Mud that lives on the Mississippi River bank. I won't go into more detail because that would ruin the heart and soul of this movie.

The negatives for this film are it's long run time and some pacing issues that aren't deal breakers because the film itself truly is THAT good. There are some subplots that pop up that are just a tad above fodder but still, even they don't ruin the movie.

The last 20 minutes or so is something else entirely and in a way doesn't fit with the previous 1hr 45 minutes however it works and works well.

In all Mud is a genuine movie acted and directed to perfection. It is a great change of pace from what I usually watch and something I hardly ever watch. This obviously won't have many fans or many who will give it a chance in this forum, but I feel it is more than worthy enough to be mentioned.

A very solid 7.5/10. Would have given it an 8 but it does run a bit long and those fodder-like subplots bring it down a notch.

Looks really good. The start of the trailer kinda reminded me of the movie Russkies where a few kids discover and be-friend a wanted man

There are other clips on YouTube but this one just leaked out yesterday. This is a kick-ass scene and the first true dialogue between Mud and the boys. Right away you can see the chemistry all 3 have. I really hope McConaughey is remembered come next February for this.

Saw this again last night and liked it even more. This is a fantastic film! I hope it doesn't get forgotten around award's time as it should garner a lot of attention there.

Also just noticed this is at 99% on RT

Good movie. Interesting story and characters that you really feel for by the end, especially Mud and the lead kid. 7/10

The one boy in this movie wearing a Fugazi shirt.

I feel that if I was going to watch a newer movie with Matthew McConaughey yesterday then I should've watched either The Paperboy or Killer Joe instead. I do plan to watch both of those.

Mud is a long, slow drama and felt too boring in parts with a few minutes of action. The movie goes back & forth between showing Mud (McConaughey) and other drama stuff with the boys. Some of the movie & drama was uninteresting and boring to me especially a good part of the movie that didn't show McConaughey or didn't involve him. The parts that did show McConaughey were ok. Reese Witherspoon was meh. Movie wasn't all that exciting but it was okay. Hard to recommend.
