From what i've heard and seen via youtube reviews of the film it had a pretty cool premise but they compared it to other films such as Hostage, Panic Room, and The Strangers so they pretty much where saying that its been done before though.

That's my feeling from watching the trailers as well, they take this really cool premise where they really could have had fun with it and shown some total anarchy in the streets, but instead they confine it to a single home becoming just another home invasion movie? Hmmm.

I saw it today and have to say it was merely OK. If you are looking for a home invasion flick wait for You're Next, it is far superior. I think The Purge is a missed opportunity. Everything about it is been there done that plus a major flaw IMO.

There are some good moments but the movie depends way too much on jump scares and that's about it.

I don't want to post about what I think is the major flaw to the flick because it may ruin it or actually sway people from seeing it. It's not a spoiler because the trailers go out of their way to flaunt it. The whole time this issue I have with the film is before me each time I watch a trailer but never realized how a great idea turned into a mediocre movie and a shitty way to portray a great idea.

Sounds like hollywood ruined another great idea. Imagine if John Carpenter or George Romero directed this while still in their prime. But no, it's directed by the same guy who produced the Assault on Precinct 13 remake.

I haven't seen it or read anything spoilerish yet... but if the ending is them surviving thus far and the killers suddenly walking away once the 12 hours of the Purge end, I will be mad. Guess I'll know on Sunday.

Movie wasn't too bad. A few plot holes and the kids' characters were annoying as hell, but worth a watch.

movie was pretty good, at least it was something that hasn't been done a million times. Had the right amount of build up and had some really creepy characters in it. It did have its fair share of clichés though. The old someone standing behind the fridge gag. AGAIN! I really wish if someone was going to do that they'd at least make fun of it like "hahaha can't believe you fell for that" or something. And there was like 4 times when someone was about to be killed by a bad guy and then BLAM! Someone off screen killed them. Yeah you can get away with that once, but after that the audience is expecting it. Need to come up with other ways to do that. But better good than bad here, Lena Headey really showed shes a good actress in this, because I really cared about her character in this movie while knowing this is the same woman in game of thrones whose character I hate with a passion. That's some real acting chops.

Lena Headey really showed shes a good actress in this, because I really cared about her character in this movie while knowing this is the same woman in game of thrones whose character I hate with a passion. That's some real acting chops.

Really? Wow if she makes me forget she is a Lannister I am in.

May see it soon I know it is getting a lot of flack but I really missing seeing big screen horror and at least the concept is somewhat original. Fuck it I'll give it my money.

Saw it tonight with low expectations due to all the bad reviews. We both ended up really liking it. Though the twists were a bit predictable and there are some plot holes I could forgive that. I have no regrets giving this somewhat original idea my money.

Loved the fact that they killed the father. Liked the character but it is always refreshing to see someone like that die.

I'm on the fence about this one. While I enjoyed the film, there was a missed opportunity to do something special. Something more then a home invasion film. I do like the fact that the film was made effectively on a small budget. Maybe, between this film Insidious, Evil Dead and Sinister, major studios will get the idea that hundreds of millions of dollars, tons of CGI and twenty million dollar salaries for "A" list stars doesn't translate into an effective film.
