The upcoming chronicle of a young Leatherface has found its filmmakers in a team poised to make their English-language debut.
Just weeks ago, it was reported the directing job for the developing LEATHERFACE was down to two pairs: STARRY EYES’ Kevin Kölsch & Dennis Widmyer and INSIDE’s Alexandre Bustillo & Julien Maury. Bloody Disgusting is now reporting the latter have won out and after years of almost making their English and Hollywood horror debut, they’ll finally take on a horror icon.
Bustillo & Maury of course debuted with modern masterpiece INSIDE, and have since followed it up with LIVIDE and AMONG THE LIVING, both still yet to be released in the U.S. (though New Yorkers can see AMONG THE LIVING at Lincoln Center on November 4th). Between productions on their second and third films came rumors and reports they would be tackling HALLOWEEN 3D, HELLRAISER and even A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET.
The duo have now landed with what’s to be the latest in the long running TEXAS CHAIN SAW series, and its decidedly appropriate given the tone of their bleak, Americana-adorned coming-of-age slasher AMONG THE LIVING.
Also revealed, thanks to the latest edition of the annual Blood List—a polled list of the hottest and best unproduced genre screenplays—are further plot details on the Millenium Films and Christa Campbell produced-LEATHERFACE. Penned by Seth M. Sherwood, LEATHERFACE sees “a young nurse kidnapped by four violent teens who escape from a mental hospital and take her on a road trip from hell. Pursued by an equally deranged lawman out for revenge, one of these teens is destined for tragedy and horrors that will destroy his mind; molding him into the monster we now call Leatherface.”
