Well it does have Ford and Kingsley going for it at least. It's sci-fi so i'll see it regardless.

The book was excellent, movie looks great. If all goes well there are more books to draw from.

Finally got around to seeing this, anyone else check it out?

I loved it, one of my favorite sci-fi movies to come out recently and probably one of the better book adaptions ever done. I sincerely hope they continue on with the series as this entry was just shy of pure excellence imho. I'd give it a high 8/10, really enjoyed it.

I never bothered to see this in the theater because Orson Scott Card is a homophobic, racist and possibly sexist prick, just a terrible awful person.

From what I understand it's a good adaptation of the book, which i also haven't read nor will I pay a dime to read either, which is kind of a shame, I was looking forward to this, but I'll wait and see if it comes out on HBO or something where I don't have to pay to watch the movie itself.

Guaranteed, a quick look through your (or anyone's) media collection would reveal habitual patronage of wares from people far worse than Orson Scott Card is alleged to be. I really hope you don't own any James Cameron films.

Knowing anything about authors, filmmakers, celebrities, etc. is dangerous and a slippery slope if you choose to tie enjoyment of a creative work to its creator. We all do it because it's sometimes impossible to not know more than is relevant about these people. Whether or not you ever see the movie, which I'm not in a rush to ever see either, the book is fantastic. I'm not much for traditional scifi or its tropes but it is a very enjoyable book.

    Case and point Woody Allen.

OT: I heard it wasn't worth a theater ticket so we'll probably rent it soon. We are also big fans of the book so this is something we kind of have to check out.

Was a decent adaptation of the book, not the next Star Wars or anything, from what I read the future of this series sounds like a fail.

Realistically I hear they'll need to essentially forgo adapting the later books and just write original material to keep the level of action and scifi visuals. As it is they exaggerated quite a lot to make a visually interesting film, or rather, one that would be visually interesting to an average audience.

The visuals in the book are very minimalist. Having seen the trailer I don't get people saying it's faithful. The visuals conjured by the book are so minimalist and stark. The kids are essentially naked for a good chunk of it, by my recollection. It sounds creepy but somehow it worked in the context of the story. Back in the early '00s when Wolfgang Peterson was attached, after having freshly read the book, I could only picture it as a 1970s style scifi picture, ala THX1138 or something. Nothing like the hyper stylized and Star Trek looking trailer appears. Maybe I'll just have to read it again.

I really liked the movie, but I don't think it did well enough for a sequel unfortunately

I liked the flick to some extent. Found it amusing how the kid kept getting promoted like nothing. Seemed a bit rushed, but I'd rather have that than deal with pacing issues. I'd see a sequel if they kicked up the action
