Yeah, he's going to move onto another genre and leave horror behind for a while. I'm actually excited to see what Rob can do in other genres he deserves it, he could probably become the next Quentin Tarantino.

As I've said many times, I have a love/hate relationship with his films.
I really like his take on Halloween.
I'm in awe of Devil's Rejects. I love this film.
H2? Sorry, it was horrendous. The imagery was a waste with the mother and horse bullshit. Making Michael so humanized that he became nothing more than a homicidal homeless man who was an absolute pussy if he wasn't wearing the mask. The strange, sudden psychic link with Laurie.... It was ludicrous.
House of a Thousand Corpses, I just can't get into it. The film does nothing for me and the best part of it, Dr. Satan and his cavernous labyrinth of freaks and experiments, was barely a part of the film.
And Super Beasto was juvenile crud....
With that said, I have yet to see Lords of Salem.
I think the guy can do some outstanding work with film, but sometimes he falls flat. But I always look forward to his films, because the ones I like, I love.
Just when this guy finally makes something like Lords Of Salem (which I loved) I don't understand why he is quitting horror.

He should ignore press and comments and make the films he's going to make. I think he's too plugged in and aware of negative feedback, which will often be louder than the good, or feel like it. It's got to especially sting when so many cum all over themselves for completely mediocre filmmakers making completely mediocre, formulaic films in the horror genre that get twice the marketing budget as what's spent on the film itself to energize mainstream audiences.
Hopefully he reconsiders.

Personally for me I don't give a shit about budget or marketing, if a film sucks...it sucks. Of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion and shouldn't be judged based on it. I like/love many movies with no budget or marketing, just not his. If handling criticism is too much for him perhaps he should just go into a corner and cry like a little bitch.

No, you missed my point. When a studio spends $10M on a cheap supernatural thriller with nothing but jump scares, silly make-up and an even sillier script, then spends $30M on advertising there's a problem. Horror should be cheap but now you have big money corporations making big corporate horror the Wal-Mart way.
Please, don't talk "film". He and Khalfoun/Aja had the only horror "films" in recent memory to release in theaters.

I enjoyed House and Rejects thoroughly... I haven't finished Lords yet, have about 30min left in it.. I did enjoy his remake of Halloween but didn't think the same for H2..
To the comment above, I most definitely agree with the big budget horror films nowadays.. I like to call it "Hollywood Horror" ... and for me, its a huge let down.

I did misunderstand and agree. Big budget PG-13 horror flicks are like Kinect shovelware games.

As much as I don't want to see RZ give up on horror I kind of think he is being a bitch about it. If people gave up on horror every time they get bad feedback for a film they made Uwe Boll would have never made it past his first film. Considering how he is in a professional world he is being a real bitch and will probably be the ass end of a lot of jokes. Like I said before I love Lords Of Salem and don't see why it gets such overwhelming hatred. I like Rejects more but I think as a filmmaker he came into a style all his own with Lords so rather than giving up I would think this would be his time to get in there and really show everyone what he is made of.

I think it may have received the hatred because it WASN'T part of the House/Rejects story... Personally, from most of Lords that I did see, I've enjoyed so far but I will say.. it does have a slow pace to it and I can see where if people watching are expecting generic jumps and scares, that this film could bore them...
