Any particular reason why the big horror franchises changed film locations when...

They were always set in a one particular location?...

    Think of the basic ones...

    Haddonfield
    Camp Crystal Lake
    Texas Chainsaw

They all have a general location. Yet throughout their respective series, the filmmakers always changed their locations.

Now the obvious answers to this is...well obvious

    - Different film crews
    - Different ideas in general
    - Wanting a fresh take on a location

But really when you get down to it. Isn't it just pure laziness/arrogance on part of the film makers, and likely the studio to an extent?

The small town used for Haddonfield in Halloween was simple, and it worked, and it seemed to also be used in part 2 but never again did these general locations get used. In fact it seemed we saw less and less of Haddonfield as the series went on, and more and more of abandoned properties, or in this case hospitals, schools, etc.

Friday the 13th, to me is probably the biggest perpetrator of this. The filming locations used for the first film were beautiful, and set on a real camp site, which they never used again. I mean I just don't get it. Do the owners of the property tell these people no, or do they want too much money, or do they simply no longer want to be associated with these franchises or? Or does it simply go back to what I mentioned in the obvious answer part?

Its just one of those quirky things I've always wondered in some of these franchises and other non horror ones really.

Especially when some of these locations (particularly the original locations) end up being way better than the ones used in later films.

When they can't come up with original/creative ideas, they simply change a few aspects and hope the audience is dumb enough to not realize that it's just the same old shit

    I think it's a little from column A and a little from column B.

Maybe the property owners saw how good a certain movie did and wanted a buttload more money for a sequel. Other times a new director will come along for a sequel and want to "reinvent" the series and try to do things a different way.

Hate to burst your bubble, but I can tell you that Haddonfield was not real. It was filmed in and around South Pasadena, CA. I use to live in South Pas and can pinpoint almost every scene. I even know where there the actual houses are.

So nothing is real in film!

    This right here.

Especially with the F13 series the filming location jumps from Jersey to CT to CA and it's usually a budgeting/scheduling reason. The F13 book Crystal Lake Memories has lots of info on the locations and things like that.

I'm pretty sure Red was talking about the physical town. Why it wasn't shot there again. They'll use the term Haddonfield, but not physically shoot where they shot in the first film

Haddonfield, Illinois is a fictional city located in real-life Livingston County, Illinois and is the principal setting for the Halloween motion picture saga. The city receives its name from Haddonfield, New Jersey, where Halloween and Halloween II co-writer and co-producer Debra Hill was born. Because of the financial success and fan interest in the Halloween (film series), Haddonfield has become a familiar and favored example of a typical American, suburban setting.

    Location
Haddonfield, Illinois is located on its principal thoroughfare of Illinois Route 410, also known as Old Illinois Route 66. It is 3.5 miles northeast of the county seat of Pontiac, Illinois and 15 miles southwest of Dwight, Illinois. The city has access to Interstate 55 via Rural Road E. 2125.

Haddonfield is 93 miles southwest from Chicago, Illinois, 61 miles southwest from Langdon, Illinois, 108.3 miles northeast from the Capital City of Springfield, Illinois, 150 miles east-northeast from Smith's Grove, Illinois, and 322 miles north from Ridgemont, Illinois.

    For those confused.

The thread is not about debating whether or not these locations exist in real life.

It was questioning why the filming locations would always change from film to film FOR that fictional setting WHEN it was always ONE fictional setting.

    As in always...

    - Crystal Lake
    - Haddonfield
    - Texas

    Again for instance...

    - The filming locations for Haddonfield stay somewhat the same for 2 films, then when they go back to it in Part 4, they aren't ever the same.
    - Crystal Lake changes in every film, and never used an older filming location again except for a tiny scene that from part 7 that burrows the Jarvis house from part 4
    - The Texas chainsaw remake series seems to use the same location in terms of the house unless it was a set, but the original series never did

Probably The biggest reason for location changes Like you are referring to is taxes! Each state has its own film commissions that are constantly competing with each other to lure filming by providing better tax incentives. I don't know all the specifics, but I hear a lot of it being here in Vegas and growing up in LA
