Another Day of the Dead Remake...

Christa Campbell and Lati Grobman, two producers of January's Texas Chainsaw 3D, have just purchased the remake rights to George A. Romero's Day of the Dead according to the LA Times. They are apparently talking to writers right now, working on the best way to make the film marketable and attractive to youngsters who have no idea who George A. Romero is but love The Walking Dead.

Actually, Campbell and Grobman are actually concerned about their remake's merits as a zombie film. This quote comes from Christa Campbell:

We want to keep it as close to the Romero version as possible to make sure that his fans are happy. These are not going to be zombies climbing walls and doing back flips like in World War Z.

Honestly, Texas Chainsaw was one of the worst films I've seen this year. If this new Day of the Dead is half as good as the mediocre World War Z, it'd be a huge step up. I can slag the film because I'm a smartass with no professional qualifications, but people who helped make Texas Chainsaw should probably not be so quick to judge.

Anyway, this is now an impending reality. Of course, Day of the Dead has already been remade once in 2008 and the world didn't end. But let's not get too comfortable.

I have said it before and will say it again....would be nice if they would make Day based on the ORIGINAL script.

Day is just a mediocre film for me. If they do a remake of Day as good as the remake of Dawn it would be a step up IMO.

What Koolmike said. I really like Day a lot and it is my favorite Dead movie. Remakes sometimes have some good points but then they mess up the good things from the originals. Why the hell don't they just redo better versions of bad movies that sucked to begin with?

    I guess the idea is...

Because Romero can't make his own Dead film in the modern era even half as good as he did with his original trilogy.

Other people will come and buyout the work, in order to hollywoodify it to make it marketable for today's audiences aka make money off the name.

That's all this is, same with any other remake.

It will likely contain nods to the original Romero movie, but on its own work, will probably be a big pile of shit with shit acting from GQ/Maxim hottie of the month/year models because its unlikely any actor/actress worth a damn will touch that script, including all the hasbeens who work today for shit projects for a paycheck.

Cash in on a namebrand that the target audience isn't old enough to be aware of...

Whether they get the title or not, they'll still try to rip off Romero. Oh well.

Funny: I'm in a place in my life right now where I know that I wouldn't waste a moment watching a remake of a Romero film. There's just too much property resurrection going on. I just saw the Star Trek Into Darkness film (I was dragged to it, ha ha!) and found it remarkable that there was very little Star Trek in it. No matter, as stated above, the target audience has little understanding of the original intent.

Peculiar how a property will be pulled from the shelf and "re-imagined," stripped of any unique aspects it may have had, and in so doing, the original audience is alienated in favor of a new audience.

A new DAY remake? No thanks.

The original is obviously great, but I'm not entirely against a remake. However, I do have a problem with who's involved at the moment--so far some of the original producers of the shitty 2008 remake are on board, along with Christa Campbell, who is seemingly claiming to be a big part of bringing about the recent TCM 3D film when all she did was executive produce along with MANY other people. And even THAT was a bad movie, but I guess they saw it as a success since it made triple its money back since it was reportedly only budgeted at 10-million. Either way, unless they get a great scriptwriter and director, I don't see this being any good.

More proof (not like we needed any more to begin with) that people get way more credit than they deserve based off a films financial success, by the same token get way too much blame when a film that was overall pretty good, but bombs drastically.

The first case being obviously more prevalent.

I am not very happy with the majority of horror movies made in the last 20 years anyway. I am sure that there are a lot of great
ideas that people have that will be ignored because no one wants to gamble with it.

To bad Zach Snyder has gotten too big now, I would have liked him to continue on with this series after how awesome Dawn turned out to be. I know I'm in the minority but screw it, it's my opinion and I'm sticking by it
