I'm really frustrated they toned down the nudity in this season a lot. They have the hot wife, butch man hater McAdams, her hot sister they even had a full on sex party and we still get blue balled. I just hope the finale at least redeems itself in terms of quality because half the shit from this season is still unresolved.

I'm sure Farrell will be somewhat of an antagonist of sorts as things progress as well.

I figured that much as well, but in all actuality it seems that for the most part he's kind of went the other direction.

The biggest concerns I had early on was if Vaughn would be able to effectively pull off the dramatic/hard-ass role he's cast in. I think he more than did the job.

The season 2 finale was alright albeit pretty much predictable and figured it would all go down the way that it did. All in all season 2 falls short of season 1, but I still dug it, and it's still one of my all time favorite shows.

Other note... I thought the creepy looking Dr. Pitlor looked familiar, but had no idea it was played by Rick Springfield.

No disrespect to Vaughn, unless they find actors wanting to do season 3 that have the power of Harrelson and McConaughey they should just end the series on the semi-high note it is at now. Also to be fair, the cast did what they could with the material given. Easy to blame the casting here since it was such a high level in season 1, but the writing in season 2 was far from the expertise from season 1. What I liked most about season 2 is Vaughn. If they do go ahead with season 3 they have to step up their game in the writing, especially with setting the proper tone from the beginning. Season 1 had an extremely uneasy, ominous feel from the first episode. Season 2 was nothing like it.

Here's the problem.
This is an anthology. Every season will have different writers, different actors, be based on different material, different everything. They wont be alike in any way shape or form.

I was okay with season 2.
We knew from day 1 that it was not supposed to be season 1, we knew it was more of a traditional cop/robber/corruption flick. And to be honest, its pretty impressive that they were able to answer most every single question and tie up every loose end with the last two episodes, any lesser and i mean... any lesser of a show could not have done this. With all the information that was forced on us, i was even surprised they were able to do this.

Haven't yet watched Season 2 yet, but I did finish up with Season 1. One of the greatest seasons in TV. Heard mixed things about Season 2.

I keep hearing about Matty potentially being interested in Season 3. I say if they get Woody back too. I'm game for a Season 3. Will it be as good as Season 1? Probably not, but it will be with familiar faces.

Season 1 is about as rock solid as it gets, but as far as the second season I dug it well enough. No way to compare it to 1, but still pretty decent in its own right as stand alone goes.

Dunno if anyone caught season 3, but it came and went recently. I just finished and I liked it a lot better than the previous season, but still not as good as the first. It has a pretty interesting mystery to it and Mahershala Ali and Stephen Dorf were both great in it, but the finale wasn't as strong as the rest of the season and the memory issue with Ali's character didn't really play into the story as well as it could have. Regardless, it's still a pretty solid season and an improvement for those looking for a much better story than what the last season offered.

The number of unopened BluRays and DVDs continues to grow steadily with time. Heh.

I liked every season of True Detective... but IMO the reality is is that the first season is probably in the top 5 best standalone seasons of a series of all time. It really is that good.
