Apparently AMC has greenlit a spinoff series set within the Walking Dead universe that will have a lot of the regular shows creators behind it--"The scripted series will hail from Walking Dead comics creator Robert Kirkman and executive producers Gale Anne Hurd and Dave Alpert."
The series will feature brand new stories and characters, with an aimed release sometime in 2015. Kirkman had this to say about it:
"After 10 years of writing the comic book series and being so close to the debut of our fourth, and in my opinion, best season of the TV series, I couldn't be more thrilled about getting the chance to create a new corner of The Walking Dead universe. The opportunity to make a show that isn't tethered by the events of the comic book, and is truly a blank page, has set my creativity racing."
It just sounds like an excuse to cash in on the success of the already prominent series, but also give the creators enough room to explore different avenues not yet addressed in the comic, so it's not necessarily a bad thing. Chances are the spinoff will air during the times when Walking Dead isn't, which should help fill the void until it returns again without having to veer too far from the universe we're familiar with. Either way, I welcome more zombie action
