Kirkman has plans on tying this show into the main show down the line, but still as its own thing. So the types that have bailed because they don't enjoy the main show will probably end up bailing on this too.
Far as this show goes, I've long felt its going to be a dud, maybe I'll be wrong. Kirkman has long wanted to get out from underneath the baggage of the comics and fans of it strictly speaking, now is his chance to do something different with it.
Whereas the problems people have with the main show being lack of zombie action, lack of likeable characters or dialogue, etc.
I think this show is going to suffer from treating people like idiots in order to show us how the biters took over, way more so than people might say about the main show. At the same time, it will deliver the goods that many criticize the main show for because its not what they wanted...lack of survivor deaths, etc.
With the apocalypse just starting, the body count in theory, should be much higher. In theory, that will be enough to keep people interested in this show and I bet that's what the hope is. This will be the show about the zombies and how they took over, the survivors will play second fiddle, where its the reverse on the main show. A lot of the casting choices already show that to me on the spinoff.
Cliff Curtis is pretty much the only reason I'm slightly interested in this. Hopefully its good and becomes its own thing. If its anything like those god awful webisodes, it'll be one and done for me with Season 1. The only decent webisode was the bicycle girl one.
