For me I prefer the initial happening of zombie flicks. That is where the zombie genre is the best in my opinion. Not when the zombies have completely taken over and there are random pods of survivors. Like the beginning of NOTLD and Dawn when nobody really knows what is happening and the human population is still outnumbering the zombies...but not by much. That is where the best stories and presentation of this genre lies. That is why although I don't like The Walking Dead I will definitely give this a go. The premise is much better and caters towards more to what I prefer.

I hope Kirkman doesn't cave into the pressure of some pockets of the fandom who want 'an answer to everything' as to how the outbreak started. He hasn't done so in the comics and I don't expect he'll do so here either just because its set near the beginning, without the comic baggage.
Heres why...
Whatever he decides for the cause won't be satisfactory enough for the people who want that kind of answer anyway, so its best left to mystery as with most things. Some of the best stories are ones not seen. We've learned that with things like the future war in TERMINATOR or the rise of Vadar in the Prequel Trilogy.
Oh also, I don't need some of my favorite games being copycated. So please, no typical government/corporation copouts.

The feel of those quick little teases are exactly what I'm looking for from a show or movie regarding zombies. Everyday life getting turned on its ass at the beginning of a zombie outbreak. Not the drama and squables between people within groups of survivors.

I've seen lots of peeps looking forward more to FTWD than TWD.
Reasons I've seen
1. Green survivors again - In other words, even though the biters have taken over, our TWD survivors generally have no problems dealing with them, seeing the fear and horror again is something these types of fans want to see
2. The initial chaos of the outbreak, wtf is going on, etc
As good as Kirkman's comic is and as generally liked as the TV show is (obviously not all the time or by everybody).
You don't see very much zombie related media that deals with the aftermath, which is what TWD is.
I look at it two ways...yes..there are many, MANY great forms of zombie outbreaks that start off at the beginning or the beginning of the chaos. That's the bread and butter of the genre and a lot of it is well done, but it also features the biters more, and they are more of a threat, less time for drama as well.
With something like TWD, its about pockets of humans trying to live life sometime AFTER the initial outbreak. They generally know how to deal with the biter threat, so then you're left with internal conflict and outside human interference as the main antagonists and the biters become a plot device or weapon used by the humans.
Of course, with that second point. No matter how many people call it real conflict (internal conflict, human conflict, trying to live again, etc), there will always be people who call it a soap opera, if the tension comes from within. They want the biters to win, and they don't when people know how to handle the threat.
Now I wouldn't say all those opinions are the opinions who prefer the initial outbreak versus the aftermath, but I'd wager its a good portion.
I also look forward to FTWD, for that everyday tension and subsequent/sudden collapse. Its worked so many times in the genre before, hopefully it does again here. The show might still turn out be a big mistake that sinks the whole franchise, but time will tell. The expectations shouldn't be as high for this show, so hopefully they allow more creative freedom.
I've seen peeps who think it just won't be the same without Rick's glares or Daryl's grunts or other things the main show is known for, but that's the point. You want it to feel like something else, otherwise whats the point?
Though, I read they may bring Jenner back from the CDC to expand on that some more, maybe a cameo of some sorts as a connection to the main series. That I would be interested in.

Wasn't that excited about this when I first heard of it, but after watching those teasers I am starting to think this might turn out to be good

Show has already been picked up for a 15-episode second season. While I don't mind another season already, 15-episodes seems a bit much and was clearly the issue with the regular Walking Dead because it used up a lot of those extra episodes for filler nonsense
