I should be finishing off that dissertation I was telling you about, but I'm here instead!
Just curious to know anyone's opinions on the film The Changeling. When looking for secondary research about horror sounds, I found this film, and decided to have a watch because I've heard of it before. It's a haunted house story, but it is really well done and in comparison to a lot of modern films, their sound design is incredible (the protagonist is a composer so you would hope so).
It built a really great atmosphere throughout, but like many older films that don't age quite as well, it didn't really scare me. Except for one scene.
There is a seance scene, but it's great because the medium used behaves in a very professional manner so it has realistic quality to it. The ghost doesn't speak through her in terms of a literal voice, she just scribbled stuff on the paper. But the editing and sound here, slowly getting faster and faster, as you try and decipher what she's writing, what message the ghost is trying to give us. It really did have me on the edge of my seat.
So, if anyone has watched this film, thoughts?
