I feel the same way about the ghost sub genre! It is the only one that can effectively get to me. I watch em in my basement with the lights off...that is when my mind starts fuckin with me! Start seeing shit out of the corner of my eyes! No other genre can really do that for me. I have been watching horrors since I was about 5 and it is hard to get scared by them anymore....the ghost genre is the closet one I have to making me feel slightly uneasy...

Have you ever tried to watch a ghost flick with headphones? I have a kick-ass surround system but I bought the Gold Wireless Headphones for my PS4 with 7.1 surround (for at night when my wife is doing something and the kids are sleeping). Plus there is an app on the PS4 you can download for the headphones and you can set them to pre-set configurations using the app. One happens to be for horror movies.
I watched Haunt for a second time over the weekend but I used these for the first time. Holy shit, totally different experience! I never jump, I jumped...a few times. In complete darkness wearing headphones you feel completely shut off from everything else and the experience is amazing. I never really feel tense watching a movie, but like this I did.

Were they by chance stereo headphones? Because stereo headphones would create that surround sound experience but just for you. First time I watched the Exorcist with stereo headphones was a revelation. I kept thinking that someone was whispering to me over my shoulder, but it was just that creepy disembodied face that randomly appears throughout the movie.

Kubrick's The Shining is the best ghost movie.. although I wouldn't really call that a ghost movie, more of a psychological horror. Not that The Shining is totally original, as it takes from The Haunting, Burnt Offerings and even has shades of The Amityville Horror.
But anyway, this movie looks stupid as hell but I might see it just for a laugh.

Yup, full 7.1 surround. Plus there are special downloads you can set to it for custom sound based on what you are doing. There is one specifically for horror flicks, which is what I used. They have 2 settings. The first being straight up 7.1 surround. The second setting is 7.1 surround but this setting you can apply custom EQ's to based on what you are doing. Phenomenal sound.

$100. They sound much better than my $250 pair of TB's I had at one point.
No set up either (obviously for a PS4). Just plug in the USB adapter and you are done. Literally 5 seconds.
All the controls are on the left ear-pad. When you adjust anything the interface for them comes up on the screen so there is
no guessing what sound level you are at, if the mic is muted or not...etc.

The majority of my horror watching is done with headphones. I definitely like the isolated feeling which gets you more into the movie . All lights off, bf sleeping, bedroom door ajar. If I'm watching a ghost flick my mind starts messing with me. I think I start hearing things and keep looking up at the door like shit., someone will be standing there. Haha. Without headphones ghost movies suck even more than they would, since we all know there aren't many good ghost movies out there.

If you like to read reivews, here are a crapload for the headphones I have.
Only difference between mine and this one is the color, other than that they are EXACTLY the same.

Damn...I got the very first wireless headset they came out with, and I guess they're not supported by that particular app.
I'm definitely going to pick those new ones up sometime because that sounds like an awesome experience for horror movie watching. I love the headset I currently have from them, so I know newer version will be great as well.
In the mean time, since mine is still a stereo headset, I'm going to definitely try those out for movie watching. Thanks for the tip

I had a press, screening ticket for this last night but didn't go because I promised my daughter I would take her. So just bought 2 tickets for the 7pm showing this Friday night.
