Kevin Smith directing new horror film called Tusk

It comes out sometime next year starring Justin Long and Michael Parks. Tells the story about a guy who gets kidnapped by a killer and becomes his plaything and gets surgically sewn into a Walrus costume.

Red State was hardly garbage. It was the first time with Smith I've ever been compelled to consider him a real film director and not a frustrated playwright beating his head against the wall of a medium he wasn't any good at.


edit: had it been released under a pseudonym it would have done much better and only backward ass fundies who identified with the villains of the film would have been the loudest voices criticizing the film. It's the victim of too much audience baggage as well as general irritability with any film that challenges their expectations.

Just finished watching Red State and I must say I was surprised....good film. Dragged at times and wasn't really all that original (a well armed family of psychos) but the directing and editing was excellent...especially once the action started. A nice trip down KS's idea (sort of hellish nightmare) about where the USA has gone since 9-11 as far as terrorism is concerned. I'm not saying there's a poitical message in this one....at least not an obvious one that is force fed to us. Definitely worth a watch.

Now that I have seen this I am looking forward to TUSK.

Red State was hardly a horror movie besides the first 20 minutes. Then it turned into a standoff. John Goodman was the only good thing about this movie and the ending was just meh. I remember it being praised before it came out, "Kevin Smith does a horror film!" and being generally excited. My excitement was crushed when I watched it and realized, it sucked.

I liked Red State, regardless of whether it is considered horror. It is definitely a polarizing one though.

I watched Red State not knowing what it was (or even that Smith directed it) and thought it was garbage. I won't waste my time with this.

Yeah, I was incredibly disappointed when I heard he was going back to the Clerks universe after this. It seemed so backwards.

The first time I saw Red State, I wasnt too fond of it. Probably because of how unconventional it is.

But I like that Smith did that & it took him 20 years and duds like Cop Out, but Smith is finally starting to branch out, take risks. For those reasons I'll be seeing this.
