Finding a random appearance of blue people from an earlier comic only shows you're still not paying attention and still no less wrong in your earlier statement.

So the 1960 comic appearance of blue people is "random" while the 1967 comic appearance isn't?
In my original post, I wasn't talking about comic appearances anyway. We have over-saturation of blue aliens with films like Avatar, The Fifth Element, Mass Effect, Star Trek, etc... not that I really have a problem with blue people, it's just that none of the characters in GOTG were very interesting to me.
I never said that Mass Effect influenced GOTG. Pay attention.

Just watched the dvd. Wish I had watched it in the theater. Movie was definitely badass
Like, so many people out there were trying to track this down. And it just...got delivered on a tweet. What the hell.

Your comment regarding "blue people" in GotG implied directly, and by your own quote of your comment, that they were "Straight [out] of Mass Effect...". They were blue because they were a race of aliens appearing in several Marvel titles going back to 1967, who were blue. Nothing random about why they were blue or why they were appearing in this film. It doesn't fucking matter if a non-related blue alien was in a DC comic seven years prior. These aliens are the Cree, the Cree are blue and none of the other more contemporary shit you mentioned or the DC comic matter. These were blue because of pre-existing material. They were present because of pre-existing material. You don't seem to have a grasp on context here and I can't believe you quote yourself and want to say you didn't say/mean what you're saying fairly clearly here.
A better criticism would have been to simply suggest that they should have picked different aliens from the comics to have so frequently in their film, given how over-saturated we are on blue aliens. But this seems rather impossible given several key characters that could not be eliminated from the film simply because they're blue. I never read any of these comics and that much is obvious. There is no GotG without blue aliens and apparently lots of them. That they weren't interesting to you has nothing to do with them being blue and is a different issue.

WRONG... you said and I QUOTE "Blue people? Straight of Mass Effect and probably dozens of other stuff." .. You were indeed saying that the movie was ripping off Mass Effect and I informed you that the blue characters portrayed were blue BEFORE Mass Effect was even a fucking idea. You on the other hand, cannot accept and admit to being wrong. I was being kind when I said you appear silly and uninformed. You are willfully ignorant and stubbornly obtuse. You decide when a movie is first announced that it is going to suck, then you nitpick the trailers and still say it's going to suck, then when you go see it, you find the most stupid reasons to claim it still sucks. You are a typical "worst movie ever" kind of idiot. You hate on things because you think it makes you look cooler and more intelligent than everyone else, and it does the opposite. You look like a stupid asshole.
Pay attention.. go fuck yourself, you ridiculous caricature of a movie-snob.

This movie is based on a 2008 comic, though. It's quite obvious why they decided to resurrect this old idea from the 60s. It has a lot of elements from popular movies. Like blue aliens.
It'd be the same thing if they decided to resurrect the Guardians of the Universe from Green Lantern.

There is too much hostility in this thread. It's an open discussion. I don't know why there are people here so obsessed with proving me wrong.
Must be all this pent up hostility. Tell me about your mother.

hey, let's leave the mothers out of this.
Plus, if you're going to argue the idea of blue skinned aliens you'd have to go wayyyyy back to pulp sci-fi zines in England. I think it had a lot to do with England's colonization of India. When you think about it, all of western religion has white skinned saints and deities. It must have looked terribly alien to them that India worshipped a bunch of blue skinned gods and goddesses.

So we watched this again last night and I think we both agreed that this is the best Marvel movie...even topping The Avengers. The comedy works great and the movie really makes you feel a connection to characters that had no previous movies to set them up.
I really think this movie has that intangible quality that timeless films like Ghostbusters, Goonies, and the Indiana Jones films have that lets you watch them over and over.

Not for me. It has one of the weakest scripts of any of the Marvel movies. It takes a good while getting good. Much of it makes no sense at all, and that's fine, but several of the other Marvel movies were so surprising for taking absolutely ridiculous source material and making it somehow acceptable without wanting to laugh at the whole thing. If anything, it's one of the few that takes the stance of "this is a comic book" and uses that as a reason to not have to worry about all the things "real movies" have to be mindful of.
It's got some really fun moments but for me to own it I would have to be given it as a gift, which I'd politely accept, but I wouldn't pop it in before several others.

Yeah, but that's like criticizing a kettle for being black.
GotG, the comic, is a pretty absurd little piece of writing. When I heard that they were planning on making a Hollywood adaptation.. I instantly said, "they're going to fuck it up". The comic is a genuine experimentation in gonzo style writing, more often than not all you can think is "what... the fuck.. just happened?"
Rather surprisingly they nailed the comics self-depreciating style and the gonzo was toned down a tad.. but after seeing this movie 3 times I don't think it would have been as good of a debut if it had stayed completely faithful to the comic.
Also, I mean really, this movie was a hit with not only comic book geeks, but also casual movie-goers.. which has been a HUGE complaint about the comic book movies to date (with exception of the Captain America series.. I've heard a lot of positive reviews from friends that are really into spy type movies).
Personally I hope they start to turn up the gonzo a bit in later installments. A huge plus would be if they visited the insane asylum that Rocket escaped from that's guarded by homicidal cyborg clowns. That would be tits.

Gunn is absolutely Brilliant!! this movie is a hit on so many levels. Character development being first and foremost, then the acting, dialogue, pacing, script, effects all of it from a d-list comic book. And the fact that it screamed Star Wars as inspiration the icing on the cake.Marvel gets marginally better with each film and for those of you who loved GOTG and haven't seen Gunn's "Slither" well shame on you
The Marvel Machine is rolling along quite smoothly even Agents of Sheild is good shits now. I can honestly say im stoked for all their upcoming cinema and TV endeavors Agent Carter,DareDevil an all the Defenders on NetFlix,Age of Ultron,AntMan and beyond "Fucking-a-Excellsior!!" To quote Stan the Man! And take it from that dude he's almost 100! Talkabout a super hero.
