I especially liked how many creepy moments also occurred during the day, or twilight hours. I think that was important to not losing momentum with the atmosphere and tension. All of this without relying on jump scares, in fact I don't believe there is a single one.
Extremely well put! I can't remember the last time a horror flick drew me in from the start and had me engaged from beginning to end with sheer excitement like this. You also nailed it with Essie Davis, phenomenal!

Then again I am not in the demographic that needs blood or gore to consider a horror movie to be good or not. In fact, I am quite the opposite. True horror is something that gets under your skin and makes you think "what if". It makes you use your brain (I know...God forbid) and be absorbed in honest to goodness storytelling done right.

If you are a fan of horror flicks and extremely well done flicks in general the fact this is slow is no excuse to miss out on it or at least give it a try

Bottom line is this movie is chilling, disturbing, and you will find yourself going back to it more than once.

I could honestly give this movie a 9/10. It was actually scary and was extremely uneasy to watch. Easily one of the best horror films to come out in recent years. The acting by the two leads was superb and I really don't have anything negative to say..except

    Spoiler...
when the babadook was crawling on the ceiling. The CGI took away the realism aspect for me

But a superb horror film. Could maybe put this in a top 10 horror films of all time. Can't love this movie enough

I saw an interview with Jennifer Kent where she referenced that scene and wasn't fully for using it but in the end she decided to put it in the movie. I have no issue with it and in a way it fits perfectly as is...hard to describe without ruining it really.

After other viewings I had to raise my grade of an 8.5 to a 9. Sometimes the really good films that actually have a story to tell, you don't absorb it all until you know the outcome and then pick up on little things a second time through. This film is really a horror masterpiece.

This little Aussie film that could basically just bitch slapped Hollywood and said WAKE THE FUCK UP! But even if Hollywood doesn't as long as flicks like this come around every so often I will be happy.

I know that it's not a perfect film by any means, I still feel that one scene I could have done without, but I am confident in saying that it could be one of the scariest films ever made. I know it's hard to accept since we're on a horror film and see thousands of movies in this genre, but I don't recall seeing a film that made me feel this uneasy before. The acting by the little kid alone gave me goosebumps. He was just an innocent kid in the film and the way he constantly yells and looks at his mother made it seem that they were really mother and son in real life. I can't describe it, but honestly I would put this in my top 10 list of favorite horror films. Maybe I'm judging it too quickly, but I can really see myself watching this every Halloween.

Wow. This movie stuck with me all night. It was a really, profoundly effective movie. Australian cinema always seems to enjoy taking me to the darkest places of humanity.. and then shoving my face in the darkness.

    Loved it.

"Essie Davis is the lead here and she will be another to watch for. Her performance in this film is borderline perfection. The emotions she portrays in this mother's tortured mind and well being is truly remarkable. For fear of treading on a very fine line of spoilers I will refrain from saying more of what makes her performance here rather incredible."

    Agreed completely with Mac.

A well done film that told a scary story and backed it with great performances from the actors and amazing direction. The use of light was something special. Incredible experience.

So I thought it was good. I give it a 7.5/10. The kid did a really good job because he was starting to annoy the hell out of me. The Babadook was really creepy. I loved the dark tones of the movie.
