Just watched the firt one...literally 15 minutes ago, it had potential, but was a big let down and a bit to short. Stranger was under used. Anti climatic death of the leader and Ethan Hawke. This one looks good though

The concept behind The Purge is really what sold me on the first movie, but didn't deliver exactly what I was hoping for, but I still enjoyed it. I hope this sequel will deliver a more intense, bloodier and satisfying experience.

I agree completely. So much can be done with this concept....let's see how creative the team is this time around.

Anyone else catch it this weekend? I saw it last night and found it enjoyable.

Good: Expanded "purge" plot, which is what most of us complained about in the first film. More action, less slow stalking. Small tie-in between the films, character wise, that I barely caught.

Bad: Dumbass secondary characters. Not as much blood/gore as I was expecting.

Personally I thought it was god awful.....sure more violence, but tension of the film, character development were lacking. Didn't care about a single character in the entire film ....everyone could have died a brutal bloody death and I wouldn't have cared. Purge plot? you mean 12 hours of trying to survive in the streets?......Pretty lame. Listed on IMDB as a thriller which I find laughable. I do agree the secondary characters were bad and honestly unnecessary. Film over all I found to be totally pointless and unenjoyable

I wrote a short review of the Purge 2 on my blog I feel this film resembled They Live and Surviving the Game with its social commentary than the first Purge film. Overall I enjoyed it. I like how people rose up and fought back in the end. One scene towards the end when the alarms rang everybody all at once decide to stop killing

I learned about this during the Seinfeld AMA, the Upright Citizen's Brigade is putting on a show that is basically an episode of Seinfeld taking place during The Purge, I'd really like to see that

I caught it last weekend and it was actually kinda decent not really horror though turned out to be more of a action film but Frank Grillo was kick ass and also had Michael K Williams guy who placed Omar from The Wire in it that was really cool even though he came later in the flick.

Besides the main character, I thought the rest were horribly annoying. I didn't get annoyed with the guy and girl too much but the mother and daughter were horrible. I know some people would react like that in real life, but my god.

Other than that, the CGI gun shots were a little much but I think the movie was good. It was better than the first and I walked into it knowing it wouldn't be the next 2001 A Space Odyssey or something. I liked it for what it was and I think I'd give it a 7/10. The characters were atrocious, but it kept me interested. A little predictable in some parts.

I caught it opening weekend, Friday. I had high hopes for the film. Like a lot of people, I think the whole idea of "The Purge" is great. I thought the original film was okay, but for such a high concept it seemed simple to condense it to a home-invasion thriller. So when, I heard what they were doing with the sequel, I was excited. I thought... YES THAT'S IT, THAT'S WHAT I WANT TO SEE. After watching it, I hate to say I was let down, but in a way I was. Maybe it was my hopes that got the better of me. I don't think the film was better or worse than the original, I honestly think it was dead even. Sure, they took it out of the home-invasion thriller category, but I still think there is so much to be done with the concept of "The Purge." Don't get me wrong, there a definite fun moments to be had with The Purge: Anarchy. With the first week take-in, I think another sequel will be on the way. All I can hope for, is that it's the film I KNOW it can be. If you enjoyed The Purge, I think the sequel will be enough to keep your interest. I will probably go for a second viewing once it hits my local Dollar Theater, to see if it my high hopes had made it less enjoyable.

I dug the flick. Expanded a bit more on the whole purge event and gave us a bit more info as well. Not really horror anymore though, more of an action/survival/thriller, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Could've used more character development and gore, but otherwise a fun watch. 7/10
