Okay, so ive decided to catch up on season 3 and i have to say...... they still cant seem to do anything right and the people of Gotham deserve every bad thing that happens to them.
They have just elected a 25 year old emo kid who has been convicted of murder and who is dripping with evil at every turn, to Mayor.....Gordon is basically batman at this point without a costume and is taking orders from a 12 year old.
Man, these writers just have no idea what they are doing.

When this show features Mad Hatter excellently, I will be its biggest fan...

It's kinda funny that they seem to be abandoning it's initial premise. I'm glad I quit during the first season. I remember when this show was going to be mainly about james gordon, but from what I have read they are really ramping up batman and they will start showing his transformation more.

The show is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me. There are some characters I really dislike (Ivy), but for the most part it remains pretty interesting. I generally just fast forward the nonsense and get to the good stuff.

I think I may finally be done with the show or at least taking a break from it for a while. I'm just tired of all these characters that keep coming back, whether they disappear, leave on their own, or supposedly "die" they always end up coming back somehow and for some reason. I'd rather see a bunch of new characters then maybe bring some older ones back after a lot of time has passed, but it just seems like characters are gone only to come back a few episodes later. I may go back to it after the season ends and binge/fast forward through the filler crap, but as of right now I'm done.

So I did end up quitting the show half way through season 4, but once I found out season 5 was to be the last I decided to go back to it to see how things finally end. I just now finished the series and well, the reasons for my quitting the show pretty much stayed the same through the rest of season 4 and unfortunately also for the final season. The main reasons being that the show kept repeating itself with bringing back the same old characters, while half-ass introducing some new ones. The final season had a cool concept of Gotham being cutoff from the rest of the world and overrun with criminals, but it seemed like the writers simply didn't know what to do with that concept after a certain point.
And after the long wait we finally see The Batman appear in the series, but we literally don't see him until the very last frame of the show. The funny thing is I made a joke when the series initially began that we probably won't see Batman until the very last episode, and not only was I right, but literally the very last frame too, which is a bit of a disappointment. It would've been nice to have him shown more in the finale, but whatever. Joker final appearance was interesting considering his character was teased from so early on.
Overall I read a lot of fans of the show were disappointed with the last season and the finale and I don't blame'em. That's the problem with these types of shows that go on for so many eps per season, the writing gets stale and repetitive fast. I don't regret going back to the show since I finally got to see how things ended, but I think had I not gone back at all that would've been fine too, because I really didn't miss much.

I liked roughly the first quarter of the first season, but felt it jumped the rails early on and only got more ridiculous from there. When it was first announced, creator Bruno Heller seemed to be promising a citified version of the outstanding FX series "Justified," with a bad-ass, incorruptible Jim Gordon bringing justice to a supremely corrupt, outlaw city. Instead, we got what was essentially an even cornier take on Tim Burton's Batman movies with way too much a heaping helping of Joel Schumacher for good measure.
I know this may sound strange coming from a guy who grew up a comic book fan and longed for years to see his favorite characters bought to life on the screen, but this show would have been infinitely better if it had been less comic book-y. It had an excellent cast, sharp direction, and was clearly blessed with a generous budget, so it had all it needed to be top-notch comic book tv fair. A real shame. I gave up after season 3 and my understanding is that it never got any better.
