Pretty much agree with all of the above. It was interesting, but definitely lacking.

Well if you wikipedia that shit, you find out that there was a forth segment. Which I was talking about. It had a shadowy government type deal going. It was cut from the web rip(and final release all together) version. So I was kinda hoping the final release will maybe have that segment but It looks like my prayers went to shit since that segment isn't in the movie, judging by the reviews.

Was interested in this, but not showing in theaters anywhere , and not spending $9 to stream it, and from what you all have been saying I'm even more convinced its the wiser choice not to see it

Like, so many people out there were trying to track this down. And it just...got delivered on a tweet. What the hell.

Just watched this. Like everyone else, that wrapper was a total trainwreck. It was all over the fricken place. The segments were not too bad. I would have liked one more to make my time worth it. 5/10

I thought this was the best of all the VHS movies.
Not that it was great, but it at least strayed away from the typical cam bullshit of cheap jumps and fake scares.

This was the absolute worst in the series by far. VHS 2 was the best because of the intriguing stories and gore effects. This was barely found footage, having different camera angles when it's supposed to be found footage, lol wut? and having horrible amounts of CGI in the segments. The stories were bland and the acting was dreadful. Viral is a P/O/S

Agreed, this movie is ka-ka.

Well, i think thats why i enjoyed it more then the rest. The found footage thing has been done to death by everyone and their mother, and the only one's that make any sense from a filming standpoint are the documentary ones anyway.
The "scares" are the same every single time (jump, loud noise scares, not actually disturbing or frightening) and none of the FF aspect ever relies on quality, story, set up and payoff.
At least with this one it seems as if the directors were attempting a new take on more traditional or old school horror and while failing for the most part, attempting to do something different. With the skater one i actually got a sense of old black and white action/horror flicks. The alternate dimension one was more sci-fi then anything else, was totally unexpected and showed some level of creativity and writing that none of the other episodes have given us.
All that for the most part was so much more then i can say about the first two as the first one was... uhh... typical found footage ghost movie 1,093 i saw in 2012, and number 2 was 2,882 i saw in 2013. I dont know how accurate that statement actually is, but you get my drift.

Then don't advertise your new movie as a found footage film. This is a simple cash in from only 3 shorts to the horrible budget of the effects. It's not good visually and the dialogue is not good at all. Plus that wrap around story is atrocious.
The first two had a wraparound story that made sense, for the films. It was found footage because of the events that happened in that story. It was also supposed to be found footage due to her looking at various VHS tapes. This one however doesn't make any sense. In the first two, they stumble upon the tapes, in this one it just..what?..shows up on his phone? It seemed like it should have been a different anthology let alone part of VHS. You can say what you will about the first VHS, but there were some great ideas in that one. VHS 2 is my favorite because of zombie and cult segments. Just super fresh ideas that were executed perfectly. Now, in this one, you get CGI on a cellphone in the first 5 minutes. Although, I did like the time warp segment quite a bit.

Regardless of differences it is still a found footage movie and they have every right to advertise it as such.
The wrap around stories for 1 and 2 were nearly exactly the same and both equally as silly. Not to say this one was any better, it was crap as well. But it did attempt to do something different and that is so much more then i can say about the first two. And while i did not sit down and analyze everything, im pretty sure the theme was uhh... Viral videos... digital.. online.. Kinda gives it away in the title.
The point is no matter how you cut it Viral at least attempted some form of creative writing and film making. The only good short story from the previous two was the zombie one, and that was simply because it was a slightly interesting take, that probably should have been a youtube video, but whatever.
In terms of writing and creativity... well it probably didn't even have a script and zombie flicks are done to death as well. But none the less it was still interesting. So what does that really say about the movie when the best things we can say about it are "zero creativity and could be done without a freakin script"....... Not exactly a good thing to say about a movie.
With Viral i can at least say one of the stories required a creative person who could also write.
While another was more of an ode to classic film. The skateboarding one reminded me so much of Voyage of the Damned and totally worked as a 20 minute segment instead of a full movie.

Was so excited to sit down and watch this last night and boy was I disappointed. I thought the first 2 were great but this was a big pile of steaming crap. I actually paused the film half way through and googled it to make sure I was actually watching the right film and not some nasty cheap rip off, sadly that was not the case. Acting horrible, story lines crap, pathetic use of CGI and no scares what so ever, I would struggle to give this a 1/10. Don't bother it's garbage

I just finished this and I can't say how much I hated it all. Such a sloppy, ridiculous mess that brings down the whole VHS franchise.
