Mad Max Fury road is the best action movie besides The raid(1+2) to come out in the last 5-6 years

One positive thing I will say is Hugh Keays-Byrne as Immortan Joe was a great bit of casting. I love his look as well. Too bad he didn't really get to do much.

Joking. I agree. Twas a good call to bring him back into the fold for the flick. Wish some of the other cast members woulda been on tap.

I'm reading the prequel comics to Furiosa. I kinda get a few things now about the movie. I get why it was so balls out insane from the first minute and why we don't get any backstory to the characters. They did all that in the fucking comic book prequels! The feminist undertones are as present in the comics as they are in the movie but I think they are a bit more justified in the comics. They don't feel forced as much and i get what they are trying to say and how they are portraying the characters. I can see now why Furiosa decided to free the breeders. It just all makes that much more sense. Now with that being said my main beefs with this movie still stand. If they just included a couple of flashabacks from Furiosa or one of the Breeders(if your already giving this chicks the majority of screen time, then at least show me something interesting!) perspective it would make that much more sense. If there's anyone else that shares my feelings about the movie I strongly recommend checking out the prequel comics. They show the bigger picture.

I really did not get the feminist angle of Fury Road, since the women in it (with exception of Charlize Theron and the female tribe) were portrayed as helpless victims from the start.

If they had become empowered and did something to help themselves in the movie without relying on others, then I would call it a 'feminist' movie. But they did nothing pretty much. Just stood around like eye candy needing to be rescued. Whether it was a man or woman saving them makes pretty much no difference in the end.

I think that was kinda the point. The breeders are pure angelic beings while men are vile, evil animals who treat them like pieces of meat.

It's even more present in the prequel comics. Immortan's retarded yet huge son gets all uppity when he sees how hot the brides are and wants one for him self, Imortan literally has to get a shot of some desert Viagra knock off into his dick just so he can bang his brides, the none pregnant blonde bride makes a Immortan Joe mask and makes fun of him implying Joe has the hots for the war boys which is even moresoe implied when the naration goes something like this "...Joe keeps the brides educated, bathed, fed and pale with chalk...perhaps they remind him of the war boys that way". Like I said the prequel comics show the big picture and everything sort of makes sense.

Saw it today and enjoyed a lot more than i thought i would. It really is just mental and relentless! Interesting i would say also the film doesnt belong to Max however as a lot of the other characters were stronger. up there as another favourite of the year so far!

I shouldn't need to read the comic to understand what's going on the movie.. But portraying them as 'angelic beings' is not feminist. Women aren't angelic beings. I just thought they were typical damsels in distress, only difference being they were saved by a woman instead of a man.

I think the breeders where stereotypical damsels in distress for a reason, that reason being men are pigs. It's about "grrrl power" . Maybe I'm looking into this too much but in my mind at least it makes sense.

Breeders are the purest and hottest things in that entire wasteland and are being locked up by a desert warlord for procreational purposes only. Charlize then comes along, a strong independent woman who is both feared and respected in that world and frees them from the clutches of a mad tyrant and promises to take them to the land of many mothers.

Am I seriously the only one seeing all this?

I always thought that feminism was about women having equal rights to men, not demeaning men as inferior and women as superior. If part of the film's message is that "all men are pigs" then George Miller has got it so wrong... although I don't think that's what he is trying to say.

I am really not sure what statement George Miller is trying to make. All I know is that I don't see how this movie is as feminist as many people are saying.

IMO, Mad Max 2 aka The Road Warrior or even Beyond Thunderdome are more feminist movies than Fury Road, because the women in those movies are generally portrayed much better.

Maybe I just grasping for straws here, maybe it's all in my head. I don't know. It's open for interpretation I guess. Also, feminism was about equal rights but today it varies depending on who you ask. My personal take is that Miller went with the "extreme" view of Men being vile monsters and women being angelic creatures...but what the fuck do I know, Im posting on an internet message board under a nickname while sporting a Batman avatar. Your guess is as good as mine.
