    Favorite SOV Horror Films?

What are you favorite shot on video horror films, of all time? Here is one of mine, Cannibal Campout (1988).

Video Violence is great. The sequel is okay, nowhere near as good as the first. Here is my top ten list, in no specific order.

    1. Cannibal Campout (1988 - Jon Mcbride/Tom Fisher)
    2. 555 (1988 - Wally Koz)
    3. Splatter Farm (1987 - The Polonia Brothers)
    4. Bloodletting (1997 - Matthew Jason Walsh)
    5. Video Violence (1987 - Gary P. Cohen)
    6. Zombie Bloodbath (1993 - Todd Sheets)
    7. Lunchmeat (1987 - Kirk Alex)
    8. Violent Shit (1989 - Andreas Schnaas)
    9. The Burning Moon (1993 -Olaf Ittenbach)
    10. Bad Karma (1991 - Alex Chandon)

Honorable Mentions: Woodchipper Massacre, Death Row Diner, Ozone, Gore-met Zombie Chef From Hell, Demon Queen, Cannibal Hookers, Winterbeast, Zombie Cop, Zombie Bloodbath 2 + 3, Violent New Breed, Black Past, Tales From The Quadead Zone, Black Devil Doll From Hell, Death Nurse 1+2, Crazy Fat Ethel II, Sledgehammer, Boarding House, Blood Cult, Hell Roller, The Puppet Monster Massacre, Haunted-Ween, Zombie 90: Extreme Pestilence, Drillbit, Chainsaw Scumfuck, Bone Sickness, Necro Files, Violent Shit II+III.

I loved the second one but you're right it is not quite as good as the first.

Nice list, I've seen most of them. Violent Shit is also wonderful and Woodchipper Massacre falls under the "so awful it's awesome" for me. I still need to get my hands on copies of 555, Tales From The Quadead Zone, and Black Devil Doll From Hell. Since every VHS collector seems to have a boner for them legit copies are way out of our price range.

All three of those are on dvd through Massacre Video. www.massacrevideo.com

In my opinion Tales From The Quadead Zone and Black Devil Doll From Hell are crap, but still a fun one time watch. 555 is great and ridiculous. VHS is so overpriced anymore it's out of control. Trust me, I love to have originals but my pocket can not take that kind of damage.

Thanks for the heads up. On out honeymoon we found a vendor that was selling obvious bootlegs (he also admitted it) of some harder to find/pricey VHS titles so we picked up a bunch. I follow a few groups on facebook and buy if it is something I am just dying to have on VHS. Our local Goodwill and independent video store have plenty of VHS at good prices but practically no horror. So I totally get the not wanting to pay too much.

I have seen clips from Tales From The Quadead Zone and Black Devil Doll From Hell and they do look like crap but they are SOVs that I haven't seen so I have to.

Definite must see's if you're into SOV stuff. I actually picked up the DVD boxset and got it signed by the director Chester Turner and the star Shirley Jones.

Now, was this vendor selling bootlegs on DVD or VHS????

Do you remember what titles you picked up??? And if they are not out on any format besides VHS, a boot-DVD is fine.

Also, you would be surprised. People still sell bootlegs of rare and desirable VHS titles to make a quick buck. I actually have a ton of bootleg vhs from late 80's and early 90's. Like the work prints of TCM II + III and stuff like that.

Oh I know some of the groups I follow point out bootleggers that still do it onto VHS. Back in the 80s and 90s I understand but there is little other reason to make copies on a volatile medium other than to mislead people into thinking it is real to charge a stupid high price.

Class of 1999 and Class of 1999 II: The Substitute - I don't know there statuses off hand
Linnea Quigley's Horror Workout - I heard rumblings about if officially coming out on DVD but I haven't seen any yet
Evil Dead the Musical - which isn't available on any format due to being a stage production

Bootleg or not, it's a nice haul!

And yeah, in the 80's and 90's tape trading was a way to find a lot of underground stuff. I'm actually a huge collector and have a ton of doubles if you're interested, btw.

I'm a big Olaf Ittenbach fan...so yeah. Violent Shit II: Mother Hold My Hand is just fabulous. I'm in love with Bone Sickness, my favorite Brian Paulin film.

Love this thread, will need to investigate a few of these titles I haven't heard off. Love SOV stuff and slowly plan on expanding my library…thank fuck for places like Massacre Video, though I will be buying DVD, oh the irony

But yes 555 is brilliant along with The Burning Moon / Black Past / Premutos, Violent Shit 2, Ozone, naturally The Dead Next Door, Splatter Farm…

Have to state as well your list is awesome pathetic_waste

    Thank you

SOV was my passion for quite sometime! I love the shit, couldn't get enough of it. Some people dismiss it as crap. But just like any sub genre of horror, you have to sit through about 5 bad films to find a good one! I've been trying to get a complete collection of every SOV horror film from 83-95 for about 7 years now, and I am almost there! It's also nice to see other people appreciate the sleaze!

Wow that is a great goal indeed! I would be happy to try and pick up some of the more decent titles myself and for the most part on DVD.

It's been a challenge. Especially the early to mid 90's stuff. There were so many little companies and stuff like that. A lot of these films are hard to find information on. It's been easier as the years go on, with the current resurgence of VHS a lot more of these films are coming to the forefront.

Yes it is a good thing for people like us that this is happening, makes finding out information much easier! Also the rise of a lot of groups of this nature on Farcebook…though not a massive fan of FB it does have it;s good points such as stuff like this and other debauched groups
