One of the creepiest parts of the book/movie as a kid was when the gang found out that Pennywise had existed for a LONG time.. and that he had been torturing poor little children through the ages. I don't think that they should try and remake the '90s movie adaptation.. why not tell a different story from Pennywise's past? Have you ever read "The Devil in the White City"? It's about Dr. H.H.Holmes and his murder factory killing spree during the World's Fair in 1893. I think if they adapted this idea of a creepy turn of the century carnival and a sadistic clown/evil spirit that prowls the midway looking for innocent children to torment. I'd love to see that flick. A remake of the '90s movie? I'd probably watch it.. I can't imagine it working though.

Little late here, but I hope they don't remake it or fuck it up for any reason. I like the original just as it was/is.

I wouldn't mind seeing a lengthy R rated rendition of IT.

The Curry was awesome in his role as the clown, and surrounded by a well known cast the mini series was watchable, yet fairly tame for what it was.
I'd really like to see a darker big budget take on what is one of my favorite King novels.

Okay, so it wasn't a perfect adaptation, and it didn't include that part in the book when the homosexuals got attacked or when the leper chased Eddie. But Tim Curry as Pennywise is horror at its finest. His performance gave me nightmares for months and months. I guess it left a lasting impact because I saw it as a kid. To this day, I still consider the adaptation as one of the scariest movies I've ever seen. He was genuinely unsettling.

It fell flat after the first couple scenes of Pennywise, which I'll admit we're genuinely creepy. Particularly, the second part of the film is funny in a bad way, hasn't aged well IMO.

Recently re-watched this, wife had never seen it before. She alternated between being creeped out by Pennywise and laughing out loud at the cheese-factor. I think what killed it, and it hurts me to say this because I like Harry Andersen and John Ritter, but the adults just weren't up to the task. They were totally outshined by the kids, who I still think were pretty amazing. They did a great job, and it made the adult's performances come off a bit inauthentic and cheesy.

I'd still be open to a remake, provided they got Tim Curry to at least voice Pennywise, and somehow managed to find some talented child actors for the roles. It'd have to be another mini-series as a movie would still be too crammed, on a network like FX or AMC that can do a TV-MA rating.

Looks like this is full steam ahead and will be done in two movies, can i get a fuck yes.

    http://www.vulture.com/2014/12/fukun...witter_vulture

Good news, horror fans: After a very long development process, it looks like a big-screen adaptation of Stephen King’s seminal horror novel It is finally going to happen. Vulture spoke with the project’s producer Dan Lin last night at an awards-season party celebrating The Lego Movie (which Lin also produced), and he confirmed that It will be his next live-action movie, with True Detective helmer Cary Fukunaga confirmed to direct. “The idea is to start official prep in March for a summer shoot,” said Lin. “Cary likes to develop things for a while, and we’ve been with this for about three or four years, so we’re super excited that he stayed with it. You guys are gonna be really excited.”
That’s an understatement: Aside from a 1990 ABC TV miniseries boasting a memorable performance from Tim Curry as the evil clown Pennywise (a human guise for the book’s titular evil being), It has never quite gotten the cinematic treatment the story deserves, and Lin says his big plan is to split King’s sprawling novel into two movies. “The book is so epic that we couldn’t tell it all in one movie and service the characters with enough depth,” explained Lin; the first film, then, will be a coming-of-age story about the children tormented by It, while the second will skip ahead in time as those same characters band together to continue the fight as adults. Though Fukunaga is only committed to directing the first film, Lin says the in-demand helmer is currently closing a deal to co-write the second.

And no one is more excited about the project’s renewed movement than It’s author. “The most important thing is that Stephen King gave us his blessing,” said Lin. “We didn’t want to make this unless he felt it was the right way to go, and when we sent him the script, the response that Cary got back was, ‘Go with God, please! This is the version the studio should make.’ So that was really gratifying.”

Just read the Cary Fukunaga (the guy behind True Detective) is going to be directing it. IMO this is very exciting news. He did a fantastic job with True Detective and I could easily see him bringing a faithful adaptation of "It" to life.

Bah, I thought that other thread was a little too short.

I'm pumped for this man. Fukunaga could easily give us the "It" that the source material deserves.

I'm also really excited for the prospect of two movies. Good news, damn good news.

Apparently the studio wanted IT to be younger in the film, so they've reportedly attached Will Poulter (We're the Millers, Maze Runner) to star in the film as IT.

Couldn't agree more. Mac has nailed it right on the fuckin' head. Timmy C as Pennywise is IMO the only thing good about the original adaptation. I'm sure the remake will do well financially but I have to wonder if this remake can live up to the difficult task of capturing the spirit of what "IT" is...this horror fan doubts it heavily...only because I've been waiting a long time for a true realization of KING's work on film. There are those that will throw The Shining at me and Pet C...2 films I did not like for many reasons. As far as I'm concerned The Shawshank Redemption is the ONLY film that brought King's writing into a well developed adaptation of his writing. Don't want to start a debate on which King films worked vs. the ones that failed..."IT" is the topic here and I for one don't see anything promising in it's (no pun intended) future. (My fingers are crossed and am hoping that I'm wrong)

When was Pennywise ever called "IT"? I know its the title of the film but not the name of the monster.

With that said, I have now lost all interest in this.
