Caught this earlier--liked it. Good pacing and the new Pennywise was cool. A bit too much CG at times and I didn't like how they'd do a close up of all the other creatures, but there were some creepy moments, though nothing all too scary. Like others have said, it was mostly story and character driven, which I enjoyed. The kids did a great job and the writing was surprisingly really well done. 8/10 Bring on Part 2

Them being adults was the less interesting part of the book and the mini series.

An interesting question I have regarding this movie is would it have been as popular if it were not for Stranger Things?

Yes, that IS a good question, isn't it? Because of this young cast, I'd say their social media definitely played a part in getting the young female demographic that a horror movie otherwise would not get. I remember, even months before the first trailer was out, there was already growing hype for the cast, known early on as "Finn's friends". Finn Wolfhard has a lot of adolescent fangirls due to "Stranger Things", and said girls make all these ridiculous saccharine fanfiction about the kids and, inevitably, crossovers with the kids of "IT". Wyatt Oleff, who plays Stanley Uris, also has fangirls, I guess for his role in the "Guardians of the Galaxy" movies. So there are all these annoying comments like, "I don't like horror movies but I wanna see you in IT so baaad!" Or, "IT was great! You were so kyyoooot!" And, "All the cast deserve Oscars!"

I got your Oscar right here.

I enjoyed the movie and haven't watched any of Stranger Things. I wonder if it would have done better or worse if there hadn't already been an IT tv movie; to compare it to.

I didn't get why they didn't incorporate certain parts in the novel that could've easily been achieved with their budget and the technology. And don't even get me started on the most iconic scene.

The kids were very good, and Jaeden Lieberher and Sophia Lillis stood out in particular. Finn Wolfhard, who played Richie, unfortunately overdid it a little with his lines.

If I do decide to watch this movie again, it'll be to compare and contrast things that might've been in the novel.

    6/10

I agree. but I found Seth Green's version of Ritchie wayyy more annoying. I think that more of Wolfhard's "jokes" landed. and it did make me want to read the book.

I loved this film. IMO, much better than the original version. Very creepy at times and funny at others. Excellent acting. Writing was brilliant. Direction, sound, and especially the use of light (shadowing) was top shelf. I'm prolly one of the few out there that didn't care to much for the boring original and was very happy with this remake. 8.5/10

Saw it tonight at the mall, the theater was crazy packed, the film has been in theaters for a number of weeks now. I found it to be quite scary and sometimes kinda funny. The acting from the kids was well done and had great chemistry. The characters felt real. I enjoyed how it didn't have 5o rely in lots of gore to shock. Bev's father in the book is a monster, he's a monster here but after his scenes felt like i needed to take a hot shower. Funniest thing happened, when they were beating on pennywise in the sewer some kid yelled out take that stupid clown everyone started laughing. This film was a rollercoaster of different emotions

This is possibly the first movie I have ever seen where the jump scares were ruined because of the score.
My thoughts as well. Also, the drain scenes were overly dark for my taste, and made things a bit confusing at times to focus on.

Overall though it's a pretty good flick, but very far from perfect, and have to agree that it's a bit overhyped. Definitely watch worthy though.
