Movies like this need to be really interesting if they want to keep their audience engaged throughout. This didn't thus it was boring as fuck and it lost me fairly early. Nothing really ever happened and the ending reminded me of the picture you see people post on Facebook all the time of a guy throwing papers in the air and a tagline of usually "Fuck it, it's Friday!". This was more like "Fuck it, I got nothing on how to end this snoozefest!"
The director himself actually called it a "Stupid Scooby Doo ending.". He tried to explain himself and how it really is smart but to me it just came off as he had no fucking idea how to end it so that's what he came up with.

^ Is it just me or does This Thread Eerily Echo the "Babadook" Thread? Right down to Fright saying something about liking the flick except the ending.

Both films have questionable endings. However for me the rest of the films aren't even close. The Babadook is leaps and bounds better than It Follows.
I really don't have an issue with the ending to The Babadook because the movie itself is so strong and the ending leaves more up to the viewer than It Follows.
What I mean by "more" is different reasonings and scenarios where It Follows is preposterous and leaves one aspect up to the viewer to come to their own conclusion.
The Babadook's ending makes you think a bit more and you can come up with a few different reasonings.

The Babadook lived up to it's potential where It Follows flat out didn't...period.

Just my opinion... that is incorrect. The ending of the Babadook ruined the movie. She feeds the monster? WTF.....
The ending of It Follows is fine... the creature can never be killed because how many people have passed it on. They are this happy couple now, but it lingers that this thing is still around.
If The Babadook had a better ening, it would be a better film by a long shot. But that ending was so bad... like, i my top 10 worst endings EVER. People say It Follows ends like the they didn't know how to finish it, but The Babadook ended in a way that everyone on the set should have said... No... this sucks, we are not fucking this movie up. I think it is more I am pissed they ruined the movie, why I feel so strongly against it now.

Spoiler...She feeds it because the tone I got from the movie as a whole is she resents her son since her husband was killed. That to me is the most chilling part of the entire movie.
In fact I am most certain SHE wrote the book. There are even scenes in the movie where she has charcoal/ink blotches on her hands and she even mentions she used to write children's books.

I got that tone too... but how does feeding it mealworms convey that? Because it didn't to me. It felt like.. hey it would be cool if she fed it something disgusting.

If any of you can come up with a better ending to The Babadook I'd like to read it.

The ending to Babadook (much like the film itself) was multi-layered and made the viewer think for days, even weeks after seeing it. While the ending to It Follows was just plain lazy.
