    Exactly.
Just like the idea of pulling Freddy out of someone's dreams.... that shit makes no sense. If he is ever powerful in the dreamland then this wont be an issue for him.
Or like deciding that a resurrected Jason that was previously blown up, can be set on fire and die.... none of these things make sense, that's part of the beauty of them.

What I am getting at though is the Elm Street movies and F13th movies are made with a campy tone to them so situations like that are fitting.
It Follows took itself too seriously for this spin to work IMO.

It Follows, didnt take itself more seriously then F13 2, 3, or 4, same with Freddy or SAC or Hellraiser or whatever. Those series didnt start becoming "campy" reflections of themselves until later on. I think if anything It Follows fits perfectly with like F13 1-4 or Elm st. 1-3.
And it cant take itself too seriously, the premise is having sex to pass on some curse. How deep you want to dive into the underlying message of the premise is whatever, but it is what it is.

Think about the nonsense ways weve seen ppl try to kill Jason or Freddy or Chucky. This is right in line.
I liked the idea of trying to fry it in the pool....what happened in this particular flick IMO was quite lame.

Agreed on all points. The pool scene would have been great if it was an 80's flick, but didn't fit with the rest of the movie. That's probably why it bothers me so much.

I liked the pool scene, because it answered one of the questions that I kept wondering while watching the movie--does it still follow in water? Answer seemed pretty damn clear after that Plus it further validated that it has some intelligence.

I liked it, but it does suffer from the all too often horror cliche pitfalls though. Exactly how many horror movies do I have to watch where the protaganist has a "situation" happen in which being the primary or solitary focus of the antagonist, they seek the comfort and safety of their peer base... only to then clam up, brood, suppress, or improperly convey the crisis to the very ones which may be able to help.

Even so I dug it for the most part. Loved it's fresh originality. Acting was decent, and it's a good example of a horror movie's likability benefiting from a really cool, atmospheric score. Worth a watch.

From the differing views I have read and viewing the trailer, I have decided that I will check this flick out, but I am in no rush to do so. Also, I will go into it with relatively low expectations.

    Spoiler...
I thought she should've fucked one of the guys to pass to a prostitute throughout the whole movie. When I saw the hookers at the end, I was so irritated. I could've saved them so much time.

for once mac I disagree with ya. I enjoyed they way it was shot. I enjoyed the soundtrack! I love how it never really defined what decade it was representing. I think the figures were about the side effects from decisions kids make/made. So worried about what others think. I thought the figures represented guilt that follows you when you make certain decision. I read a few breakdowns of what people thought of this flick, I usually never do that and for out this film is pretty deep.

and deep frying it in the pool was a pretty stupid idea.

I really really enjoyed this one. Slow burn but very effective.

Finally caught this today. Was just Meh. Agreed that the soundtrack was awesome but the pacing issues were driving me crazy. I give it a 5.5/10

Tarantino rips into everything wrong with this movie.

    http://www.joblo.com/movie-news/it-f...criticisms-223

He [writer-director David Robert Mitchell] could have kept his mythology straight. He broke his mythology left, right, and center. We see how the bad guys are: They're never casual. They're never just hanging around. They've always got that one look, and they always just progressively move toward you. Yet in the movie theater, the guy thinks he sees the woman in the yellow dress, and the girl goes, “What woman?” Then he realizes that it's the follower. So he doesn't realize it's the follower upon just looking at her? She’s just standing in the doorway of the theater, smiling at him, and he doesn’t immediately notice her? You would think that he, of anybody, would know how to spot those things as soon as possible. We spotted them among the extras.

The movie keeps on doing things like that, not holding on to the rules that it sets up. Like, okay, you can shoot the bad guys in the head, but that just works for ten seconds? Well, that doesn't make any f*cking sense. What's up with that? And then, all of a sudden, the things are aggressive and they're picking up appliances and throwing them at people? Now they're strategizing? That's never been part of it before. I don't buy that the thing is getting clever when they lower him into the pool. They're not clever.

Also, there’s the gorgeously handsome geeky boy — and everyone's supposed to be ignoring that he's gorgeous, because that’s what you do in movies — that kid obviously has no problem having sex with her and putting the thing on his trail. He's completely down with that idea. So wouldn't it have been a good idea for her to f*ck that guy before she went into the pool, so then at least two people could see the thing? It’s not like she'd have been tricking him into it. It’s what I would've done.

QT straight up eviscerated this flick, which he is 100% spot on with everything he said. To think he is on record of saying he liked it! Wonder how badly he would tear apart a movie he doesn't like

That shit Quentin said was funny as hell. Granted im not the biggest fan of Tarantino, but I still yearn for his sole contribution to the horror genre.
That being said. I finally checked this out, and even with out Quentins slam. I was really apprehensive going into this. The Hype Train was huge for this flick.......
    ....,Especially on UHM.....
Now the reason I say that is. because last year, another lil independent gem stole critics hearts and had UHM board members dangling from its collective nut sack . All because of the Hype. An that God -Awful Pile Called the Babadook. Was horrible an just hearing It Follows was compared to it was enuff to steer me clear for awhile.
Anyways I enjoyed it well enuff its way better than that art house indie snoozefest that is the Babadook,. But its far from the master piece certain outlets would have you believe.
