Charlie Wilson is the bigger than life sadistic star of Charlie’s Farm and you will know who he is soon enough. His story is memorable, his kills are imaginative and gory, and he’s brutally unrelenting. In fact, this film hits all the notes of a classic slasher film with likable characters, great practical effects, and beautiful shots to boot. This one was a real treat to watch as it even kept that classic Friday the 13th playfulness to it.

Saw this last night. Although good it isn't anything all that special. At points the characters become annoying as their shtick gets a bit grating. The special effects are really what shine here but outside of that and a creative kill here and there you have seen this before many times, and better. It reminded me of Hatchet more than anything else and at times almost seem to try and emulate that film.

Entertaining...yes. Something you would watch more than once, unlikely.

Sounds like a clear winner to me. My only question is how did you see it? Anyway, this country doesn't produce many slasher films. There's Wolf Creek 1 & 2, Cut and not much else.

Wrong Turn is as generic as they come and that spawned 5 sequels. So who knows..

I'm fine with a slasher, no matter how generic. If the special effects are good then I'm in.

    I have ways

I believe it releases this week in Australia, spring for here. In the NYC area there are always screening passes for upcoming movies.
Typically there are people out in the lobby or outside the theater handing out passes to random people to sit at a screening. The only catch is
you are asked to fill out a survey at the end of the film. The survey is always about the movie, mostly check boxes. Too much gore YES or NO?
Scary enough YES or NO? The questions are always catered to the film you just sat through and obviously being asked by the production company or the makers
of the film themselves. Sometimes people involved with the film are in attendance, but that is rare.

I have seen countless movies this way going all the way back to the first screening I ever saw which was Phenomenon with John Travolta

To this day the funnest one I ever attended was H20. After they handed out the survey's and collected them they had a surprise QA session
with the makers of that film. Pretty awesome

Doesn't hurt I have a buddy high up in the chain within AMC Theaters either.

As for the special effects, yes Nik...there were pretty awesome.
To me it came off as an Aussie version of Hatchet. Not a bad thing but I believe my expectations were too high after reading through some reviews beforehand.

If you are curious for American reviews there are some out there as early as the beginning of November.
This is one I agree with for the most part but would score it a point lower overall.

Very lame movie.. acting is terrible, especially Tara Reid (don't know why she's in it).. this would be forgivable but the kills don't start until the 1 hour mark. Charlie is badass, but he doesn't get much screentime. There's a
    Spoiler...
brief fight between Kane Hodder and Charlie, which is cool

. There's really no reason to watch this other than for Charlie, a couple of good kills and the two cameos from Kane Hodder and Bill Moseley.

9/10 for me. I thought it was wonderful! I didn't think the cameo of Kane was needed and Mosley played his father, so that was cool. Beautifully shot, likable characters, even whining Reid was tolerable and the two leads...awesome! The gore is fantastic and Charlie is beautiful. Bring on a sequel..I certainly will be there. I got the DVD coming from JB HI-FI. : )

Yeah, you're right. It's trying to be Hatchet. But I think Hatchet is slightly better than this.

Yeah, you're right. It's trying to be Hatchet. But I think Hatchet is slightly better than this.
More than slightly better. The overall vibe between the two is vast with Hatchet coming out far superior. This reminded me of back in the day when the first pair of Jordan's were released. Then places like Kmart and stores akin to them released their shitty knock-off's.

The problem here is that Hatchet although fun isn't something stellar in it's own right either.

Anyway, the movie had some decent practical gore and a couple deaths were above average, but we have to sit through an hour of unnecessary and tedious character development to even get to any of the good stuff. Surprisingly, the production values seemed higher than what we normally get from these types of films and Nathan Jones was awesome as Charlie, but the character himself (aside from looking menacing) was pretty cliched and bland (much like a majority of the movie). Hodder's cameo was okay, but like Moseley, just seemed tacked on for the fans. And Tara Reid was not only her terrible-acted self, but also seemed randomly casted in the movie as well.

I'd slap this with a 5/10. It's not THAT bad of a flick, but it definitely isn't anything worth rewatching or seeking out either. If anything I'd say if you're bored and got nothing else, it's worth a look on Netflix late one night. :soadeto2:
