    28 Months Later

This film is finally moving forward says Alex Garland

    http://www.dreadcentral.com/news/101...-months-later/

There’s been various chatter over the years regarding a new 28 film to round out the trilogy started with 28 Days then 28 Weeks Later. Recently Indiewire caught up with Ex Machina director Alex Garland to get the scoop on the possible third film.

According to the site Garland says a third picture is moving forward with Andrew McDonald, the producer of the first two 28 films and a producer on all of his movies thus far and many of original Danny Boyle’s films (including the intended Trainspotting sequel).

“About two years ago, Danny started collaborating on the potential to make ‘Trainspotting 2,’ another sequel,” says Garland. “In that conversation, an idea for ’28 Months’ arrived. I had a funny idea. I had a sort of weird idea that popped into my head. Partly because of a trip I’d taken. I had this thought, and I suggested it to Andrew and Danny, but I also said I don’t want to work on it. I don’t really want to play a role, and Andrew said, ‘Leave it to me.’ So he’s gone off and is working on it.“

Garland continues, “The rights to ‘28 Days’ were frozen, effectively, because they were shared between Danny [Boyle], [producer] Andrew [McDonald], myself, and Fox. After the second one, none of us really wanted to do another. Fox may or may not have, I don’t know.”

I absolutely LOVE 28 Weeks Later. 28 Days Later is good as well but I believe the Weeks surpasses it in every single way. I'm totally down for this!

I saw 28 Days Later on release. One of the few horror films to blow me away. Just had me on edge from opening frame to the last. In fact, I think I'll go rewatch it.

    First film was good.

Second is completely forgettable to me, bigger scope I suppose, but the performances were dog shit compared to the first JMO.

Curious timing, I feel like the fast zombie/infected craze is over now. This will probably reignite it though for a short time.

It was an attempt at humor post, not meant to be taken seriously

Who in their right fucking mind would sit around and really calculate that?

The whole zombie genre is starting to become a joke unfortunately. I never considered the 28 franchise zombie related....infected is more like it.

The word "infected" is thrown around throughout both of these films while "zombie" is not used once.

The original helped reintroduce the entire genre, regardless of its sub form (running, slow, fast, zombie, infected).

What helped 28 for me anyway.

    1. Set in Europe
    2. Good performances
    3. Small cast
    4. No real stereotype characters, probably helped that it was set overseas, in the states it probably happens
    5. They weren't zombies
    6. It was more plausible than the standard zombie/infection affair

While it never really did anything new, it was a refreshing take on a dead tired genre at the time, that hadn't had a decent film since probably Savini's NOTLD remake or the much maligned ROTLD 3.

Then you had the Dawn remake, Shaun, etc everything designed to cash in off the craze, hell Romero himself tried with Land, which was bleh. I'm convinced if you gave Romero the exact same cast, crew, budget etc of any of his first 3 dead films and still filmed them in a modern 2000ish setting, the film would still suck. I guess he just was a director who was better in older eras and he couldn't acclimate to the industry as it is today. Technology was his enemy when it came to filmmaking, but give him Savini, old 60s/70s/80s era filmmaking and it works.
