I liked the movie. It was interesting, well paced, had some nice gory deaths and practicals and I dig the whole survivalist Laurie and how that affected the family dynamic. Michael himself was pretty brutal and great overall. The score was solid and the movie had a nice Fall/Halloween vibe to it. A solid sequel

OK, so i just got around to watching this. Let me say i'm a huge Halloween fan. The original is my favourite all-time horror movie and i've watched that and the sequels more than any other franchise out there.

So first things first, i went in without too many expectations, largely avoiding all spoilers and gossip leading up to it. Going in as green as you can when you're a Halloween aficionado.

So what did i think?

*SPOILERS AHEAD*


Opening credits - 10 / 10. Loved the 'dead' pumpkin coming back to life in an homage to the original and foretelling of this story.

The mask - 10/10. Best mask used in any halloween movie out there.

The main characters - 9 / 10. Jamie acted her crazy pants off. The granddaughter was very likeable and all beyonce 'independent' strong modern girl/woman. The mother was acceptable, Shape was good. The Sheriff was awesome. The new Loomis was average, but acceptable.

The music - 9.5 / 10. Classic halloween score, with updated rock-ish additions.

The plot - 5 / 10. Disappointing really. There doesn't seem to be any method to his madness. Some very convenient kills to get his jumpsuit, and the mask....and the kitchen knife, but were they necessary? Could they have been given more meaning? Yes, i know its a slasher, but i've always thought of Michael as a bit more measured than Jason/Leatherface who just take out everyone in his path without question. Given that they ignored everything post 1978, why was he so hung up on chasing Laurie Strode, some random babysitter he didn't know. Why not go after Tommy, or Lindsay or the Sherrif or anyone else he encountered in the original. I don't know, too many question marks in this area.

The kills - 5 / 10. Nothing too outrageous, nor memorable. Stab this, crush that, hit that, move on to the next one. For all the crap Jason X gets, the head shattering kill in that is totally worth watching that film for. Couldn't say anything like that in this IMO.

The final battle - 8 / 10. Bigger, better, more intense and much more elaborate than most other slasher films out there. Did they do too good of a job in killing Michael off? We thought the ending to H20 was definitive enough, but the writers were able to bring Michael back again. Not sure how they will do it this time, unless another switcheroo type scenario was to happen. If so, LAME!

EDIT: Forgot to add, did anyone look through the credits of the film? PJ Soles was the teacher. Not that we saw her, but we heard her. Nice touch.
If anyone doesn't know who that is, its the 'see anything you like?'/'totally' girl from the original.

He is a huge plan for possible sequels though. He is the son of the bully from the original who knocked the pumpkin
out of the kids hands. There is a history there and villain/killer consideration moving forward.

Though in the new series motivation must be removed at all costs while still maintaining characters and references from the original...it's a "bold new take"

That's a pretty cheesy stretch
