As you all may know, this movie was released in the 90's, my era during the big teen boom, and it was a movie with a very rare premise and another new and fresh idea that kinda stood out from everything else out there: instead of having killer chase you with a knife or hook, and chase you around in a ghost mask or raincoat, we have a djinn.

Even though this was something kinda creative and new at that time, not the same old same old, it never lived up to it's premise or fully executed the idea behind it. The acting is alright and the movie is overly cheesy, and stupid at times. The only thing the movie really has to offer is the death scenes, which were cool and gory. We also get cameo appearances from Robert England, and Tony Todd.

So all in all, we get the same thing to come out of a slasher film, but instead of a killer wearing a silly mask, we have a djinn. I liked it better when I was a kid, but now...5/10 just because of the cool death scenes. Nothing else.

Did you guys like this or remember it?

Yeah, I remember watching this when it first came out. Nothing to take serious, just something to watch over beer and pizza. Did not mind this, might just re-hire.

    Robert EnglUnd!

I like the movie but how cheesy it can be unfortunately. It could and must have been such a great movie but it's just an ok entertaining movie. What a pity with such an idea and appearances by Robert, Tony, Ted Raimi and Kane Hodder.

I like the movie I thought the kills were sweet and I thought Andrew Divovff did a kickass job as the djinn. The cameos were hilarious and probably only known to the horror fans at the time. Part 2 was ok, part3 was terrible and part4 almost unwatchable.

Yes he was. The only performance that actually stood out in the entire film.

Let's just hope they don't remake it. Those death scenes would be CGI and that would really suck!

Andrew Divoff really tore it up in this one. It didn't blow me away but was entertaining enough and quite fun. The sequels were terrible but I liked the "Go fuck yourself" bit in the second film

I think this is a very fun flick. Divoff was awesome as the djinn. I think Robert had a full role rather than a cameo in the movie though. He was the main character's professor or boss or something - it's been a while since I've watched it. The rest were cameos. I don't remember Ted Raimi though, I guess I'm going to have to rewatch it. I own the VHS.

I still have a video store I can go to. We have an independently owned video store where I live that has awesome selection and has outlasted all the big chain video rental places that have been near it. Of course you're renting everything on DVD and Blu-ray now instead of VHS, but it's still nice to go to the store and pick out the movies rather than sitting at home and flipping through the Netflix instant queue for the 70th time.

I really enjoyed the movie the first time I saw it. I rewatched it a couple months ago and didn't realize how cheesy it was at times, but I still enjoyed it. It's just one of those movies that if you grew up around that time you will probably enjoy it, but watching it now for the first time a person probably wouldn't. There have been many times I watched a movie from my childhood and wondered why I loved it so much.
