    Poltergeist remake

Well this could be one of the 3 out of 100 remakes that I might like thanks to their writers, read here, and if you like the film that these guys have written then you will definitely see why I like this so much.

Yeah this remake obviously has a bright future by getting the writers from that fantastic film, Boogeyman.

I really don't see why this needs to be remade IMO. I liked it just the way it was.

I'm a big fan of the original Poltergeist. I'm cautiously optimistic about a remake. Seeing a new version with todays modern day special effects could be interesting as long as they don't sway away from the original storyline too much.

I hated the original, was bored to tears and it never creeped me out even as a kid. They can remake the hell out of this for all I care.

Raimi Involved With Poltergeist Remake (Possibly Direct)

Next, Birnbaum moved on to a remake of POLTERGEIST. The MGM head mentioned that Sam Raimi was currently in talks to direct. Apparently, Birnbaum didn't tread too deeply on this one. It's still early and may not even be likely that Raimi will take the job. However, he might stay on as a producer or something of the like.

While I love the original, I think that a redo from Raimi would be pretty interesting. Say what you will, but I like this franchise enough that I even enjoyed the third one. No shame here.

Yeah, I kinda doubt that as well. His name will end up under producer especially since this is going through Ghost House.

Sam Raimi's POLTERGEIST reboot has been rumored for a while now, but it seems that it finally has some traction. Screenwriter David Lindsay-Abaire has come on board the project which definitely shows that Raimi has some investment in the project.

Lindsay-Abaire has written the adaptation of the play RABBIT HOLE as well as Raimi's upcoming OZ: THE GREAT AND POWERFUL. He was also working on SPIDER-MAN 4 before that fell apart. He recently confirmed his involvement with POLTERGEIST at a screening for RISE OF THE GUARDIANS, which he co-wrote with William Joyce.

Lindsay-Abaire told Shock Til You Drop that he is writing the screenplay from scratch but will respect the original 1982 version. Does that mean we will get a darker take on the story or something closer to the original?

POLTERGEIST is a great horror movie. It really boils down to E.T. with ghosts, which is a good thing. Tobe Hooper (and/or Steven Spielberg, depending on who you ask) did a great job of directing the movie and keeping it scary without resorting to cheap thrills. It was probably the last wholesome horror movie, maybe the only one.

With the remake train chugging along with both CARRIE and THE EVIL DEAD looking damn good, who knows if POLTERGEIST will continue that trend.

This article brings up the always debated point of whether or not Hooper or Spielberg directed Poltergeist. For me the movie feels like a Spielberg movie. Hooper is simply not a good director (TCM being his shining star). I actually think his best work was Salems Lot. Either way if you pin any of his movies up against Poltergeist there are no similarities. However if you compare Spielberg's work with Poltergeist it truly feels like his doing.
