I'm just going to do a micro-review here instead of a full on one like I normally do.
I really liked it, my GF wasn't a fan and said it was "too slow." Though I think this is the kind of movie that needs a smoldering pace with a few flareups of action. It's basically a western as the movie tries so desperately to shove down your throat with clips from the western classic, Shane.
Basically it was the first X-men movie that is 100% character driven. There are character arcs, a plot that further eviscerates the Xmen continuity (not that fox cares anyway they've been fucking up continuity since Xmen origins Wolverine), and some brutal, brutal, brutal violence that even a die hard gore fan such as myself had me saying "holy shit!" multiple times.
The connections between Logan and the girl is something you can feel grow and there's only a couple heart warming moments amidst an entire film of tragedy. Take heed sappy folks, this movie is a DOWNER. The whole film twists the audience into getting their hopes up, then immediately dashes them to pieces with adamantium claws.
There are a lot of points I can hit, the self deprecating nods to everything the "comics" (read that as the Fox movies and not the literal pieces of paper shown on screen folks...come on you can take a tiny bit of metaphor) got wrong and how the whole thing is bullshit. The lame end to the xmen and depressing reason for the lack of mutants, the anti-immigrant behavior yet lack of care for the depletion of human labor (auto-trucks folks...theyre not that far off) all is designed to feel as if the viewer is trudging through a bog of depression headed towards a bleak future.
It's not all dire though, the one ray of hope in both the movie's emotional and figurative sense is the little girl as X-23 (aka Laura). Listen, I know how you feel about child actors...I hate em to. They suck. However, this girl does a great job. She's silent through much of it, she rarely speaks English when she does talk, but her action and raw emotion (or lack-there-of in certain scenes) perfectly match the character.
Here's the bottom line, Jackman was great and this was his chance to finally get to play Wolvie the way he wanted to. Compared to shit like Xmen Apocalypse, X3, Xmen Origins Wolverine, and decent fodder like Xmen Days of terrible movie names, The Wolverine, and X2. This one really stands up with my fav mutant movies like Deadpool, Xmen First Class, and X1. Like Deadpool, Logan is different from all of them and I love that part of it. It may just be the best of the bunch.
8/10

Saw it yesterday and WOW, what a film. Very different to other Marvel/Xmen films in its tone and def its content. Be warned if planning to take younger people or people who are quite sensitive to violence as it is relentlessly violent and pretty gory. Logan is beautifully done in many ways. The film sees Logan who is now not keeping so good tasked with helping a young girl with similar abilities to him. Thats about as much as i can say without spoilers.
Is it perfect? no. Some of it seems a little disjointed and those who havent followed the films closely will struggle to connect some of the dots (my mother did) some of it a little cruel (one scene in particular left me feeling "was that really necesary?", and it could def do with a small trim to its runtime however it is an enjoyable film and will leave many (including myself!) with more than a few tears in their eyes. Logan is a beautiful farewell for Hugh Jackman in the role of Wolverine.

I rarely give out 9's, but I loved this film and found it to be a proper end to the beloved character. Solid 9/10 from me
