Hey guys, been a while. Mainly for the reason that I haven't seen a horror film worth a shit ( I haven't even seen all hallow's eve, mainly for the reason that I don't want to waste money on a film that is possibly shit). However, I happened to catch this little film on television one night and let's just say, I see why they decided to do limited theatre's and VOD verse a wide release.
There's no need for a reviews, if you have seen PA 1, 2,3,4 and the tie in/spinoff "the ghost dimension" then you have seen this movie FIVE TIMES already. A family, usually a couple with kids (a very young or teenage daughter) who start to experience paranormal activity when they find a tape full of old cassette videos and weird wired camcorders. You know what happens at the end.
Every possible thought of idea to come up with an original concept for these films have died because of the greed of it's producers. There are things that are being overly explained and things that aren't being explained enough (the ending in PA 4 and Katie's real agenda after what happened in PA 2) . It seems lie this series has lost its way and that this entry was just another cash cow to make money and to fool people once again into believing that something extraordinary will happen and it never does.
One thing I will say positive about the film is the presence of a CGI toby, specifically one scene when they try to capture him. However this even brought up a bigger question, with all the money this series has made, why not make a practical effects driven ghost instead of a sloppy CGI video game ghost?
So all and all this is more of the same of "lets play with shit until something happens and when it happens we stay in the house and get tormented instead of leaving" films. This just shows that the "ghost" genre is getting very old and tired.
4/10 and maybe lower.
