Not at all. I understood 90% of the movie, but the director explains that the mysterious figure we see glimpses of throughout the film is not the Blair Witch. So who is it? Heather? Who freaking knows!? I thought it was interesting and liked how they said the Witch could play tricks on them, as she has the power to control the confusing time lapses throughout the movie. Plus, she can only kill you if you look at her, so she or perhaps someone else tricks James by calling out to him in Heather's voice. I dunno. I thought it was at least interesting.

Same. It was a lot better than I originally gave it credit for heading into the theatre. Decent flick.

What toby was trying to convey is not that these things cannot or are not interesting, but a movie is a self contained story, it needs to exist in a box. The better it fits in that box, the better the writing, directing, acting, etc. but more importantly, it demonstrates proper story telling. If you have to go outside of that box, something is wrong. When you say you understood 90% of the movie, that means the 10% you don't understand was either something you missed or in this case, something that was not in the movie and to fully explain a story, a self contained story, that 10% needs to be there. It may sound anal, but this is something that is objective to movies and is a base equation we can all understand and apply.

This movie is not good enough to have a two page debate on this forum. There is nothing to not understand in this film. It's filled with loose ends, terrible characters and one of the more lazy ways to film found footage. It doesn't hold a candle to the original, even if it shows a glimmer of hope here and there.

I personally like it a lot more than the original. The original was boring. The movie consisted of horrible acting, yelling and screaming, enough camera shaking to give yourself a migraine, and ended with a guy standing in the corner, he was probably taking a piss.

This movie was the same thing except they removed the "real" feel to it, any creepiness or tension and replaced it with bad jump scares and a cgi monster.

Her brother basically thinks there's a chance his sister is still alive and he sets out to try to find her. It's interesting. I didn't mind it.
Nope, haven't seen it. Like I said, Adam Wingard isn't a draw for me, and I assumed it was a reboot (based on the fact that the last sequel was nearly twenty years ago). Still, knowing now it's not a reboot but a late sequel, it still doesn't sound like something I'd be interested in. Thanks for the info, though.

I've been doing the same for thirty years, since first getting hooked on horror in my mid-teens. After a few decades of obsessive horror movie watching -- and that's not hyperbole, I was literally obsessed with watching every horror movie I could possibly get my hands on -- you get to the point when you become more selective. You develop an eye for potentially good or bad movies. These days I only watch stuff I feel will be worth my time, or older stuff I never got around to for whatever reason. This movie doesn't feel worth the time, which is why I doubt I'll ever bother.

Exactly the same for me and I still get bamboozled. I don't have the time I had 20 years ago so I have to be very picky.
Even so, I watch some really shitty fucking movies, some of which are praised by many for reasons I don't understand.

Same. Too old and too tired to waste too much time. Definitely more selective as the years roll on.

I'm a sucker for "Found Footage" movies and will watch any of them that I come across. I've seen a lot of good and a whole lot of shit. OG Blair Witch is still in my Top 10 for the genre. This one was OK. I need to see it a 2nd time because I must have missed something.
