Scared to Death (1981)

This is a cheesy monster movie about a scaly creature that escapes from a lab. It hides out in the sewers, but it was very dark in a lot of scenes, and if you had a bad copy, it was hard to see anything.

Several years later, there was a sequel of sorts released direct to video, where multiple Syngenor monsters are in a lab, and it was a film that was a lot like Aiens, with asshole marines fighting the monsters...

I've got both of these and remembered enjoying Syngenor but I went back to rewatch Scared to Death and couldnt make it through. It doesnt help that they copy I was watching was one of the "dark" ones you were describing.

Yeah it's bad. I actually kinda like the sequel a little better

I saw both a couple months apart from one another back in the mid-90s. I remember very little about Scared to Death, which typically indicates it was bad enough that I didn't feel it worth committing to memory. Although I do vaguely recall the main guy's girlfriend getting nearly killed, and the monster was kinda/sorta cool. I remember Syngenor better, mostly because of the presence of David Gale. And I recall the monster being a bit better crafted.
