Charted horror films from 1980.

I have the Variety magazine scans saved. Here's what the first week in January of 1980 looked like.

This information is unavailable online without paying a lot of cash, so I'm just doing this as a favor.

Which ones are actually horror movies? I recognize about 4 or 5 titles that would be classed as being horror.

Just watched Penitentiary last week, great movie.

Breaking Away being my favorite

An all time favorite of mine from back in the day. If Norman Rockwell set a painting to motion depicting true coming of age, and the many wide ranges of adolescent inadequacies, doubts and fears, and the angst and regrets that many of us have suffered at one time or another then you'll find it all here in a neat little package. Breaking Away has all of that and more.

It stands on its own merits and deservingly so - winning multiple awards including an Oscar, as well as a multitude of nominations. A true slice of life flick that deserves to be seen at least once by anyone who appreciates anything remotely resembling substance.

[Lon of the Dead]

The only actual horror films I see in that list are Enter the Devil, The Shout, and The Blood Waters of Dr. Z. The only other title that comes close is Time After Time, but that's actually a sci-fi thriller with a few slight horror elements.

[Solo]

A case for Apocalypse Now could be made if you’re going down the psychological horror rabbit hole, but even that would be a stretch for most every horror fan purist out there. Regardless of its “true” genre affiliation, it’s still a creepy unsettling flick in so many ways.

[Lon of the Dead]

Yeah, definitely a stretch, but a case could be made for it. At the very least, it's notorious for having been a straight up horror to make.
