I have mixed feelings about this, it has great gore effects but it isn't very suspenseful and it is fairly slow moving at times. The characters spend a long tine searching a house, learn nothing search a cemetary go back to the house. There is also a long scene involving a late night clerk play cards whike he pretends to look for the sheriff at some motel or something. The murder scenes could have been a bit more spaced out or add in a few more deaths. Two characters go off to go screw then just kind of dissappear from the film. Some stuff could have geen filmed for them.

This one's pretty hit-and-miss for me as well. Savini's FX are of course the main attraction, and they don't disappoint. But as has been said, the pacing's all over the place. And there' really isn't much of a story here, as witnessed by a number of scenes clearly designed to pad the running time (the deputy calling the motel clerk leaps screaming to mind). And what kind of slasher movie lets two characters wander off to make out, then doesn't kill them off? As for the whodunit aspect, it's not much of a mystery because...

...there are only two characters in the film old enough to have been in WW2, and one of them is in a wheelchair! Plus, if you watch Farley Granger's facial reactions in the few scenes he's in early in the film, he practically hangs a neon sign around his neck that flashes "KILLER."

While this flick does seem to get a lot of love from slasher fans in general, I consider it serviceable at best. AKA "Rosemary's Killer," which IMO is a much better title.
