I was dying to play last night so after a series of fiddling I got my switch docked to boot up again.(still waiting for parts to come in to repair it) I followed the chart I posted earlier to unlock Ryu and played through his classic mode.
HOLY FUCKING SHIT I have SOOOOOOOO much respect for the nintendo programmers that paid such homage and took such care with the characters and their modes. Every stage with Ryu has music from SF2 and the corresponding characters are in place to pay homage to another SF character. Zero Suit Samus gets Chun-Li's music, a green Donkey Kong gets Blanca's in his jungle stage, Meta Knight get's Vega's, Little Mac in American flag shorts gets Balrog's. They even made the stages flat with no levels to make it more like SF stages, and most importantly, they made your % meter your life bar, so once it goes down you die. I can't tell you how impressed I was with the minor details in this.
The other classic mode runs are fun and have nice little details like pig Ganon from Ocarina of Time being Link's final boss, but the Ryu run was just A+. Now I'm going to unlock Ken just to hope he gets the same treatment.

Ripped the Switch open and changed the battery out and it's working great now. Was playing with the GF a little bit last night, still unlocking characters and having fun. I want to start the single player story soon.

Started playing the Spirits of Light or whatever it's called, I kind of wish the whole "Spirit" aspect was more downplayed but it seems like you need to equip certain spirits to progress or even beat some opponents. I guess I just wish it was a little more like Subspace Emissary, but then again who doesnt want that?

Depends what level you're playing on. I was playing on Normal for a long while before I hit a serious snag. It's a fun mode but it can be extremely grueling. Even after I switched to Easy it was difficult at some points. It's a good way to unlock characters and there is even a new game plus, but doesn't offer up much of anything else unfortunately. I want to go back and try the new game plus eventually. It was a fun mode.
I usually just stuck to Mac and his spirits that made his physical attacks stronger. I got annoyed after a while switching to spirits to help me deal with wind, lava and sleep.

So I made it passed the first section of World of Light and there's still a shitload more to play. People weren't kidding when they said this had a ton of single player

Update 3.0 is hitting tomorrow, 4-17.
The tldr version:
New Character - "Joker" from Persona 5 ($5.99). He also comes with his own stage that changes color when you switch music. He comes with 11 new tracks. Three of those tracks come from Persona 4, and two of those tracks come from Persona 3. Joker also has a meter, kind of like Mac, that when fully charged unleashes Joker's Persona that makes him stronger. He can deflect moves and becomes invincible when using his Up + B.
Stage Builder returns. So one of the amazing aspect of Smash bros for WiiU was being able to design your own stages. They are finally bringing this back after it being absent in the initial release of the Switch version. You can be more in depth in your creations and have multiple layers to the stages. You can also download other people's stages from a mobile app called Smash World.
Smash World. So apparently there is a mobile app where you can access voice chat for Smash Bros. I never used it as I am against using another device for voice chat when it could have been integrated into the game, but apparently it has a few cool features. You can now look up videos by a specific fighter and also download people's stages. You can go through anyone's uploaded stage, click download, and it will appear in your game when you log in next.
Video Editor. You can now edit your saved replays and videos
The video above explains it all better. Joker looks like a great addition to the roster. I can't wait to see what other characters they reveal. They will be adding characters until February, so I am excited. I'm still waiting for them to fix the clusterfuck online mode. They took out a lot of features from the WiiU version that I'd like to be re-added.
