This show looks like it could be good and a bit of a reversal, johnny is shown to be protecting a oung teen from some bullies while daniel has grown up to be a smarmy douche. Meanwhile johnny is teaining a bunch of bullied kids to be able to fight back, maybe goes overboard? Things aren't so black and white in this trailer. The show looks good in my opinion and I'll check it out.

I don't recall anyone saying he was this spectacular actor. He is an ok actor but it is kinda weird to say he is over rated.

Macchio, overrated? Nah. He's never been called a great actor. I'd say he's rated more or less on the money.

At any rate, I loved the first two flicks and admit that over the years, the fan-boy in me has occasionally wondered what Daniel ended up doing with his life. I guess now we get to find out.

Side note... I scavenge Macchio dvd's gladly given away at yard sales and use them in the sweltering summer months as beverage coasters when I'm watching movies with real actors.

I liked the Karate Kid movies when I was a kid, as an adult I find them way too cheesy. I might give this a shot though.

Watched all the episodes.

Bit of a mixed bag. The nostalgia plays well enough, the kid acting isn't too distracting. However im not 100 percent on board with the more humorous approach the show takes, because the films really didn't play much for humor. I mean there was charm sure, but the humor wasn't overly used. My guess is with Pat Morita long dead, they probably wanted to try a different approach, or it could be something they chose without any side factor.

For what it is, I think it works well enough. I do think based on the ending to the first season that it might run out of steam fast and go from something mostly grounded in a believable reality to just being a show relying solely on nostalgia to tells its story. Hopefully not.

I also binged it a few nights ago and pretty much agree with everything ŔęĐ said. The nostalgia bits are fun, all the call-backs to the original film, Daniel's Miyagi-like approach to training his student, and I thought it was an interesting touch that after meeting again for the first time in thirty years, Daniel was a bit of a douche to Johnny. This, despite the last time they saw each other, Johnny handed Daniel the trophy himself and apologized (though not in so many words). But the humor does feel forced at times, and honestly that ghastly, completely unrealistic one-hand stand move was a real groaner. I get that in the Karate Kid series, it always comes down to Daniel winning the day with a new, powerful move, but this one essentially requires him to become a Jedi master (he'd make Yoda on Dagobah proud). But The Karate Kid ain't Star Wars, and that move is completely laughable in the context of a show based on a series which always took a more realistic, straight-forward approach to karate.

Still, quibbles aside, I enjoyed the series. I even got a little misty when Daniel visited Miyagi's grave. It really says something about Morita's performance that even now, three and a half decades after we were introduced to Miyagi and twenty four years since we last saw him on-screen, the character still has the power to compel us.

The show was awesome and loved how politically incorrect it was. I liked seeing the teens at cobra gain confidence as johnny taught them. Johnny became kind of an under dog anti hero, he was still a jerk but his heart was in the right place, his character had a lot of depth. He was really relatable
