Watched Shin Godzilla last night. I thought the script was horrible. Copy I watched was english dubbed with no attempts to remove the american accent at all so it was strange to listen to, and difficult to have any sense of immersion sitting through it - which wasn't helped very much at all by the first hour being very dialogue heavy. Worth a watch if you dig on the big Lizz.

First time in almost forever I purchased an IMAX ticket. I am so pumped for this!

Anyone watch the Godzilla Netflix animated movies? Finished them off this weekend and despite being weird, I thought they were decent Godzilla stories. It was nice seeing 3 direct sequels in a row with one continuing story.

I'm jittery with anticipation that I get to see the Big Boy rumble on an IMAX screen tomorrow night!
The embargo has been lifted and the reviews are coming in (currently 54% on RT) and I am not reading them.
However some synopsis of the bad reviews are irritating and a movie like this should not be reviewed in this manner.

It looks like the response is quite divisive on the film but I thought it was awful. You may love it but it was not for me

How is that a worthwhile review? Did this reviewer not know this movie would not be for them BEFOREHAND?
This is idiotic. It's fucking Godzilla! What an asshole-like review.

I don't know about anyone else here on the forum but I'm totally going to see some Kaiju lay the smack down on one another, taking out
cities in the process. What else is there to look for in a Godzilla movie?

And two paragraphs from a positive review which is a 9/10:

Where we only got glimpses of the creatures in the 2014 film (until the very end, anyway), here we get long, lingering shots, beautifully and lovingly orchestrated by Dougherty, that remind us why we're here. You don't have to squint or freeze frame to soak in these awesome beasts, rather you get to see them in their full glory, rendered masterfully and given their time to shine onscreen. The sound design is astounding and each creature has their own signature sounds and "voice" to carry them through the film. It most certainly makes the case for that tiring phrase "see it in the biggest, loudest theater you can". However, that applies generously here. The action is grand in scale here with one battle after another (and one location after another) creating a thrilling spectacle to behold. Quite simply, this feels like the monster movie Hollywood has been trying to make since Roland Emmerich's abysmal 1998 GODZILLA, but haven't quite cracked. Until now.

With a careful attention to detail, a focus on what's really important (i.e. what you're there to see), through-the-roof special effects, ear-shattering sound design (and a killer, thematic score by Bear McCreary) and an assortment of fun, cool and quirky human characters, GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS is the perfect summer blockbuster. In many ways, I felt like I was watching JURASSIC PARK for the first time all over again, as it stirred that same sense of awe and wonder as it actually gives a shit about these creatures and lets them bask in their cinematic splendor. It's a true drive-in spectacle with a TON of Godzilla Easter Eggs (even as a casual Godzilla fan, I spotted a ton of them, which I won't spoil here) and a real passion for the genre.

Now that is what I am looking for!

Holy fuckin' shit what a movie!!!!!

First thing I want to get out of the way is the difference between
the "Professional Reviews" compared to the "Audience Reviews" on RT.

Tomatometer is 44% with 85 reviews, Audience reviews 91% with 1,254 reviews.
Speaks for itself. The crowd I was in cheered the entire time and the movie got a standing ovation.

Godzilla fans, rejoice! This is the movie with our boy we wanted for a long, long time! All of the Kaiju in this flick
are gloriously presented, in your face and no mere glimpses of any of them. The nods to Godzilla lore and even specific Easter Eggs
only the true 'zilla fans could spot are aplenty, especially when it comes to Mothra. Hell even in the end credits
Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan, and Ghidorah are in the end credits...as "Himself/Herself"!

Kong is referenced a lot in this as they are obviously setting up that epic battle. We even get glimpses of him within camera footage
as he walks around Skull Island (which is also referenced quite a bit).

All of our main Kaiju get tons of screen time and look incredible. The throwdowns are epic, the disregard for cities is on a grand scale.
I saw this in IMAX, I mean what better way to see Godzilla!?

No spoilers here, I know too many of you guys are all pumped up to see this.
End credits show news clips and newspaper headlines about all the kaiju, Skull Island, and of course Kong.
