Yah, it looks exactly like what i'd expect from a modern remake of the film.
And it very much seems to be a remake of the film and not simply another adaptation of the book.

What? It goes without saying that Kubrick's is better-directed from a cinematic standpoint, but his movie felt like a CliffsNotes version of the book, and Nicholson's "iconic" performance isn't really a performance, it's just Nicholson being Nicholson. His Jack Torrance is already cracked when the movie starts, so his mental unraveling isn't all that long a trip. The TV movie, on the other hand, is better acted, the characters have more depth, Wendy is an actual person and not just a screeching coward (no fault of Shelley Duvall's; Kubrick's abhorrent treatment of her on-set and insistence on making Wendy a wailing milquetoast are a matter of record) and Jack's descent into madness is more layered, gripping and effective.

IMO, of course.

I to prefer the mini series of shining to the over rated Kubrick version. It's a terrible film and Jack Nicholson isn't at all scary. There are some good moments in it but over all it's pretty boring. When the Kubrick movie originally came out it originally received a lot of bad reviews it's only in more recent times that some people started to like it.

I remember it as being awful, but it seems I could be wrong. Will have to rewatch.
I do remember King himself saying he disliked Kubrick's film, he said more specifically that Kubrick "Thinks too much and feels too little".
