James Gunn is writing and possibly directing the next Suicide Squad film

I love DC characters and the shoddy filmmaker's and WB decisions have ruined most of the films so far. This is a great move on WB's part...just stay the fuck out of James Gunns' way and let him make you a billion $.

Also I hope they recast and ignore pretty much ALL of the original SS. That movie was shit.

If this news is true then great it's good to have James Gunn get more work after the bullshit. The only problem here is Warner Brothers, James Gunn could undoubtedly make a great Suicide Squad movie hands down because he's James Gunn and he knows how to make great stories with character depth that the film world desperately needs.

Warner Brothers however has always been known to be a terrible studio when it comes to handling their comic book movies always trying to ape off of Disney/Marvel, if they want to recover their losses from their embarrassing run of disasters like Batman vs. Superman, Suicide Squad and Justice League they need to let James Gunn make the movie he wants to make and just let the movie speak for itself rather than slavishly relying on focus-groups that fuck up the movies with needless reshoots and editing.

I understand Hollywood is a business and they can do whatever they want, but like all the big corporations they are slowly losing control and they are ceasing to be relevant in this day and age with the rise of Netflix and original content without putting shackles on story-tellers to appeal to every goddamn demographic in the world, you have to adapt or your businesses will die and only Disney and Universal and Netflix will survive, if you want to make money you're going to have to get used to making niche amounts of money instead of trying to make all the money in the fucking world because that's not a reachable goal in any business nor should it EVER be the goal.

No one can have all the money in the world, if they did the world would be left in ruins and those in power will sink everything like they're doing right now with the rise of global warming in the next 100 years or less our planet is going to be uninhabitable for humans and we're all gonna fucking die, so if we're all going to die soon at LEAST let our later years be held with SOME kind of dignity and grace.

The internet is slowly killing the corporate bastards' plans for total control and I will actively REVEL in their self-destruction.

Good. Some of the characters and their portrayals were fine in the original. I think Will Smith was ok as deadshot and Margot Robbie was good as Harley. They could drop the rest...don't care.

Rick Flag was the only character I liked in SS, and even he just barely. Much was made of Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn but I found her far more grating than enjoyable, and the less said about Leto's blinged-out Eminem Joker, the better. The story was all over the place, the characterizations were paper-thin, the overly stylized visuals were garish and intrusive, the action poorly staged and generic....I could go on. It boggles my mind how this loud, murky, vapid, nonsensical clusterfuck of a movie made nearly 750 mil at the box office. Captain America: The First Avenger was a vastly superior film and made only half that.

As for Gunn's involvement, he has a knack for quirky characters but as a storyteller in general, I feel he's lacking. GotG and GotG 2 were IMO among the weaker films of their respective MCU phases from a story standpoint; I'd expect the same from a Gunn-written/directed Suicide Squad movie. Both are about outcast characters doing dirty grunt work, so it's not like he'd be stretching his writing muscles very much.

One of the major issues was reshoots for "tone". Hence the gritty comic con trailer then the much more comedic trailers later on. Picking a lane would certainly help the scattered feel and story telling. Gunn has proven he can do dark comedy and anti heros which us what SS seriously needs to work.

Wouldn't mind seeing less Leto as well.

It's been known that James Gunn has been signed to write the film and now it is official, he will direct the film and it will start shooting in the fall. Which is awesome news. Will Smith won't be coming back, he wasn't contracted for another film but Margot Robbie may be returning.

Sooo with this, The Batman, WW84, Shazam 2/Black Adam. I'm more excited for DC films than I am Marvel. That's not good for Disney. Hopefully WB steps up and does some good stuff this go around.

Same and I am by no means a fan of DC proper but I do dig Vertigo. The last Suicide Squad movie had me this excited but once the tone shift happened in their marketing I got nervous. Hope it works out this time around because villains are one if the few things I think DC does well.
