There should be another A Nightmare on Elm Street that is a straight sequel

to at least the first one, bring back Heather Langenkamp and Robert Englund. I enjoy the franchise overall but it would be nice to have Freddy be scary again and have a film that ties directly into the original instead of films that have disjointed plots, it would just be cool seeing Robert playing a scary freddy like in the first two, even though I do love Dream Warriors

It wouldn't surprise me if they do something like that considering the success of the recent Halloween.

Meh. I don't really see where they could take Nancy's story other than where they did, with her counseling troubled teens. Then it'd just be a pointless rehash.

Alice's story, on the other hand...

Sounds terrible. I liked Nancy being killed in 3, there's no need to "Halloween" this franchise with unnecessary de-boots to make it a sequel to the original.

I'd rather it stay dead or come up with an original story.

I consider it an insult when a franchise decides to ignore multiple entries, like the Halloween series has. If the interim sequels no longer count and are considered to have never happened, then I want back every penny I've paid over the last thirty-some years to see them in theaters and to buy them on VHS and DVD. It's only fair.

As for Elm Street, either a new sequel -- not a relaunch, not a reboot, not another remake -- starring Robert Englund, or don't even bother. And make sure all the previous sequels count, even the bad ones (which IMO are parts 4 and onward).

Even A nightmare on elm street has ignored past films. Part 3 ignores the events of the second film and part 6 pretty much ignores past sequels it could follow on after part 3 but has nothing to do with parts 4 and 5

Let's not lose ourselves in semantics.

"Dream Warriors" may have ignored the events of "Freddy's Revenge", but not in a way that affected canon. Given how Nancy claimed the teens at Westin Hills were the last of the Elm Street children, it can be assumed Jesse was killed. In fact, Freddy's ability to possess someone's body and use it in the real world made it all the way to "Freddy Vs. Jason".

"Freddy's Dead" didn't necessarily ignore the past sequels. It just picked up Springwood several years into the future, far enough that it wouldn've had to worry over the whereabouts of previous survivors.
