Being a fan of the films I used to be opposed to someone replacing Mel for the role as Max, but now that so much time has passed, he's gotten old and is clearly insane, I'm more open to a new Max. Hopefully it doesn't get slapped with a PG-13 rating, but it probably will since Thunderdome was. Of course, if they decide to go dark or violent like the first two (hoping) then it'd definitely have to be R. Guess we'll wait and seeThe upcoming Mad Max sequel, entitled Fury Road, is now officially moving forward, with Tom Hardy (pictured above) set to play Max, replacing Mel Gibson, who's obviously too old and crazy for the role now. Original writer/director George Miller returns.
No official plot yet, but it's said to take place shortly after the events of Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome, keeping Max still relatively young. One story tidbit that was revealed involves Max protecting a group of women known as the "Five Wives" from some baddies. At one point it was rumored that the story would involve Mad Max's son taking the lead.
Riley Keough (the granddaughter of Elvis Presley) is in talks for a role as one of the wives, with Zoe Kravitz, Teresa Palmer and Adelaide Clemens playing a few of the other wives in the group. Charlize Theron and Nicholas Hoult round out the cast. Filming is aimed to begin sometime early next year.
