Gremlins Remake

For a sequel if they just made it as Zach and Phoebe still being the guardian of Gizmo (It has to be Giz. He is too cool to have died of old age like a dog) Zach a Phoebe decide their teenage kid is responsible enough to watch Gizmo for the weekend as they go out of town for some reason. Next thing we see is the teenager throwing a party and a beer gets spilled on Gizmo. Gremlin hijinks would then ensue. Not a brilliant idea, but definitely more watchable than a remake.

I kinda wouldn't mind that.

This doesn't need a remake but a second sequel with practical effects would have been brilliant!

Same thing as Ghostbusters, I don't want to a see a sequel or a remake. You bring CGI into it and you'll ruin it. That's the whole charm, that they were all practical effects. No way am I going to pay to see CGI gremlins.

Here's some news to make you choke on your coffee this morning. According to Bloody Disgusting, DARK SHADOWS/ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER writer Seth Grahame-Smith will be producing a third GREMLINS picture for Warner Brothers, alongside David Katzenberg, moving ahead with a remake of Amblin’s 1984 GREMLINS instead of the long gestured sequel.

There is no word on who will be writing and directing this remake, but if this bit of hellish news holds true then I wouldn't be surprised if Grahame-Smith pulls double-duty and takes a crack at writing the screenplay as well as producing.

In an interview with Crave last year, producer Frank Marshall spoke out about a possible GREMLINS reboot, stating...

No, I don’t think so. I think by now we have something in our contracts, or at least Amblin does, where it can’t be remade without Steven [Spielberg]’s permission."

No word on whether or not Spielberg has signed off on anything as of yet.

I'd like a sequel, or even a whole new story with new characters. A CGI gremlins movie wouldn't have any of the charm of the puppets/mechanical originals.

I wouldn't mind a sequel staying with the same animatronics and puppets. CGI will kill it. A reboot is not needed one bit and would most likely be ill received. A reboot WITH all CGI...

I remember hearing rumors long ago about a prequel about the gremlins that would take apart the planes of WWII. Obviously inspired by the myth created by airmen and the looney tunes cartoon Falling Hare Under Joe Dante that could be fun movie.

That's how I feel about it. I'm not opposed to the idea of remakes like the remake hating crowds in principle, and although I do not like most of the remakes that have been done; there are rare exceptions. I think the non-CGI Gremlins would be easy enough to accomplish, but I can just as easily see the community opting to go with the tech and that would be sad.

I wouldn't say never but it is highly unlikely. Hellraiser I could see being remade but it would be hard to undo the damage by all the direct to video garbage sequels they pumped out. Pumpkinhead is overrated so I don't care, besides the only good thing about that movie was Pumpkinhead and he would most definitely be CGI in a remake which would defeat the purpose. Re-Animator, other than a cult following the movie doesn't have the draw for a remake. The Fly was already remade, twice if you count The Fly 2. The Howling...I believe almost all the sequels can count as remakes although the original is superior. Child's Play can be remade because they turned Chucky into a joke and it is the only way to re-establish him as a horror icon.

Lately it seems that all remakes go that way, a shame. It is a resource that is sometimes useful, the problem is when it starts to abuse it, it's there when it loses restraint and something that could be great, starts to become somewhat annoying, when you start to notice this effect everywhere.
