    Neill Blomkamp directing next ALIEN

District 9 and Elysium director Neill Blomkamp is officially going to direct the next film in the Alien franchise. This is separate from Prometheus, which Ridley Scott is still working on with the sequel. Apparently this film will take place "years after the Prometheus sequel." Blomkamp apparently got the job after he showed the studio some concept art on his idea for a new Alien film. Check the concept artwork below.

You can read more details on the project at UHM's page http://www.upcominghorrormovies.com/movie/alien-5

Whether people like his films or not, Blomkamp is a pretty talented sci-fi director and I'm looking forward to seeing where he takes the franchise.

Yeah that was pretty slick how he got the gig. Even Sigourney is interested, again pretty slick job on his part casting her in Chappie to get the Alien ball rolling in his favor

Elysium wasn't all that good but it wasn't bad and it certainly looked slick enough. District 9 was awesome and Chappie looks to be as well. Even in the worst case scenario this will be better than Resurrection. I'm pretty sure Blomkamp will deliver on this. Hell even in his return Scott dropped the ball with Prometheus IMO and feel it is quite overrated.

I have no idea how to rate this person as a sci fi director.
Elysium and District 9 are polar opposites in nearly every way. One being on par with genius directing and story telling, with the other being.... typical and trendy.
I dunno... they should just cut the stupid shit and hire me for the job.

I'm one of the few that loved Prometheus, so I obviously cannot wait for this. I love Blomkamp, but didn't quite like Elysium. I thought it looked good, but didn't deliver with the story. However, this is Alien we're talking about here and it seems like he really wants the job instead of it just getting thrown in his lap. I am extremely excited. District 9 was phenomenal.

    I liked Prometheus as well

I loved District 9 and thought it was great in it's grittiness. I think Blomkamp can make the Alien franchise work really well with his style. If they bring back Sigourney I will be even more pumped. Ripley is one of my favorite characters.

Prometheus was no Alien, but it wasn't un-enjoyable. The script was bad, in terms of dialog and how it wrote all of the scientist characters, but it also had some very cool story elements going for it. Good story, bad script, but the story and visuals help tip it to favorable territory for me since it's hard to expect much of a scifi movie these days anyhow. I liked it enough to buy it.

The Ripley-Alien just reminds me too much of Alien 4 though. I'm hopeful yet skeptical.

A bunch of movie buffs together should show diversity in their views which I believe is shown in every single thread on this site regarding movies. Been here for ages, always been that way.

I felt Prometheus was glorious to watch -- aesthetically. It was flawed and didn't do the franchise justice...but it was still worth watching. I remember seeing Blomkamp's artwork a while ago and thought -- finally, someone will do something right to bring the franchise back to relevance. The idea that Weaver is excited about this should have all the fans chomping at the bit for this film.

It doesn't and won't have the same replay value of those two. Though I got to where I couldn't watch Aliens again for a period I honestly couldn't tell you how many times I've seen Alien. It's so fucking amazing. Prometheus gets so many bonus points from me because it nearly has as much connection to Blade Runner as it does to Alien. Even though the characters are all pretty stupid, besides Fassbender's character, which is pretty awesome. Scott isn't a writer and never has been. He's not an auteur, not really.

I just love that we get to see WTF the Space Jockey was too. I wish it had the seriousness and realism of Alien though.

I can tolerate Prometheus so long as they keep it as a spin-off like the AVP films.

It's definitely got that going for it. It's not as stupid as the AVP films. But make no mistake, Prometheus has more legitimacy than the Cameron film, or any other sequel, because in reality any film not involving either Ridley Scott or Dan O'Bannon is ultimately fan fiction at worst and "spin off" at best.
