Way before he had star roles in the likes of Peaky Blinders and Oppenheimer, Cillian Murphy made a breakthrough appearance in 28 Days Later. Directed by Danny Boyle and written by Alex Garland, 28 Days Later is a masterpiece considering its low budget. Murphy was outstanding, and the film’s success paved the way for a sequel.
28 Weeks Later: An Outstanding Sequel
Many sequels have failed to live up to the originals, but 28 Weeks Later went very close. It is an outstanding movie in its own right, but the film just falls short of the first one. Nevertheless, many argue that the second film had more action, tension, and a better cast. Jeremy Renner and Idris Elba star in this zombie classic, and a third film is said to be in the works.
Doghouse has flown under the radar since its 2009 release, but the movie directed by Jake West is well worth a watch. The storyline is ridiculous, and the plot is strange, to say the least, but the likes of Noel Clarke, Stephen Graham, and Danny Dyer make this hour-and-a-half zombie flick a real joy at times. It may not be as good as the other British zombie movies on our list, but Doghouse is certainly underrated and underappreciated, in our opinion.
