While the project is still in development, it looks like Christopher Landon is no longer attached to write or direct, as he revealed in a recent interview that he parted from the project due to "creative differences." Here's what he had to say: "I wrote a script that I loved. I actually think it was one of my best. But the problem with that is that you still have to deal with other people who have different opinions about what kind of movie we should be making. This was a classic case of creative differences and it was something that I was not willing to change. Everybody moved on and that was just the way that it went. But at least it was a calm separation." He goes on to talk a bit about how the movie would've gone had the studio approved of his script, saying that "[it was] a remake in the sense of it being a spider invasion in a small… in this case, it was more of a West Texas town." Adding that it had a lot of "body horror" and was "brutal," detailing that the spiders would use their fangs to slice into flesh and lay eggs inside your body. Christopher Landon (Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, Happy Death Day, Freaky) is set to write and direct. (6/2/22)
The producers have expressed interest in John Goodman possibly returning in some sort of capacity.
James Wan (The Conjuring franchise) co-produces, but will not be directing.
The film's title "Arachnophobia" is based on the term, which means a fear of spiders and other arachnids.
This project was originally announced back in 2018.
This is a remake of the 1990 film with the same name that starred Jeff Daniels and John Goodman.
