PROJECT DETAILS:
It was announced at CinemaCon recently that StudioCanal is developing this "reimagining." No additional details have been revealed. It's also unclear if director Andy Muschietti and writer Guy Busick are still attached to the project. (4/13/26)

Fango reports that Guy Busick (Ready or Not, Scream, Scream 6 & 7, Abigail, Final Destination: Bloodlines) is scripting this remake for Andy Muschietti. The site sources the information from recent production notes for Final Destination: Bloodlines, which I have also read and can confirm. Not much else has been revealed and it's unclear if the project is still with Netflix. (5/21/25)

Andy Muschietti (Mama, IT) has recently expressed interest in possibly developing a remake with Netflix, however nothing is official at the moment. In fact, it's still all very early talks right now and nothing more. (1/9/20)

Back in 2015 a newly-formed banner named Emaji Entertainment was reportedly developing a remake, however it never came to fruition.

A straight to video reboot (of sorts) aimed at a younger audience named The Howling: Reborn was released back in 2011.

The original film was based on the Gary Brandner novel.

This is a remake of the 1981 Joe Dante film with the same name that spawned seven sequels.
