According to Jason Statham not only will his character from the first movie return, but filming is expected to begin sometime in January 2022. Here's what the actor had to say in a recent interview: "We’re gonna start shooting in January if I get my dates right. Ben Wheatley is the director. I’m very excited to work with him. I’m thrilled to get going. Its been a while. We’ve been waiting around for the right scripts to come in and the right director to turn up, and we’ve got all those things, and they’re all stacked up now. [Wheatley’s] great. We have a great shorthand already. We’ve got similar taste. I like his movies. I think he’s a brilliant director. I think we’ve got a good shot at making something good." (4/28/21)

Directed by Ben Wheatley (Kill List, A Field in England, High-Rise, Rebecca).

Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber and Dean Georgaris return to script.

It's said that much of the key cast from the first movie will return, though none have officially signed on as of yet. (10/23/20)

This is a sequel to the 2018 film, The Meg, which was based on the Steve Alten book. The movie became a worldwide hit that pulled in over $530-million globally.
